Saturday was a beautiful day for a car show and
Doug Roop of Bradenton, FL in his 1990 SC and myself were showing our SCs
in a sea of Mustangs. Frank Joseph
came down from Clearwater, FL without his 1989 SC because of a harmonic
balancer.
We wandered around looking at vendors watching some of the drag racing.
We saw many 9 second Mustangs and even an SC!, well an SC body. It had a
1995 rear, 1989 doors and a 1996 front end. The moldings looked a
little strange but at 100+ mph who can tell...
Sunday the weather was horrible, it was windy all day and it rained a little.
They had the show cars park in a sandy lot, so that made it worse. I was
the only SC that showed up Sunday. I was going to try and race and show
at the same time, it would have worked, but after my first run of 15.2 @
89 mph my car caught the eye of a Muscle Mustang & Fast Ford
photographer. He approached me at the show cars and introduced himself
as Vinne Kung and asked if he could take some pictures. He took
pictures for 45 minutes and while he was doing that they called my class to
race.
After the pictures the Suncoast Falcon Club handed out trophies to try
and beat the rain. I brought home a "best paint plaque", which was my first
and I also was recognized as one of the 20 best cars.
All in all it was a fun show and hope to see more people at the
St. Petersburg Pier Show April 4th
even if you think you don't have a show quality car come on out
spectators are free and the Pier is a cool place to hang out.
