Have you noticed how much we complained and still complain about the SC being too heavy and how ford screwed up and such.
Notice how the new pony cars, sports cars, sports coupes. Are all tipping the scale, Although these machines are making serious HP, 4000lbs is starting to be the norm for these cars. Seems like with some more HP we can keep up with the times after all.

furthermore all the extra electronics; electronic climate contol, cruise control, wind shied wipers, auto dim mirrors, mirrors that auto defrost. All the extra modules required to control these little aspects and facets of the newer cars add up.

its strange how things do a complete 180..
We went from large cars to lightweight cars...back to large cars.
There is a bit of weight that goes along with refinement.
My complaint isnt as much the weight as it is the lack of hp
Just look at the peopel that have gotten there SC's to teh 3,000lb mark..Everything that made it an SC was removed.
sc+gt500 engine would be nice
Also..There was a mark VIII at Carlisle with a complete 03/04 cobra engine.
I talked ot the guy and he has no issues dropping it right in. seems liek a great idea to me(now didnt BH try that with Mendolas car?)

New challenger, camaro and mustang are all well above 3800 lbs.
They are simply bigger. lets not get into performance sedans, those all seem to be above 4000lbs.
America still seems to be unaffected and people are still buying heavy cars.

Things are changing.
The magazines say "it's 1970 all over again" and they don't know just how right they are. The best cars ever are rolling off the lines just as the market is going to shift and make them impractical and they will fade away faster than a 1972 454 Chevelle.
In 1984 I was 16 yrs old and putting $18 into the tank to fill up my 1972 Corolla hurt. I was making $3.50/hr at the time. Now I don't really know how much I make an hour but I have the same feeling now putting $80 into the XR7 that I had then putting $18 into the Corrolla. Makes me feel like I haven't made much progress in 25 years.

I guess this is a good time to talk about how when I was "born" in 1984 I wasn't making any money nor putting any gas into anything.:D
Anyways, I wanted to add that my brother just bought one of those new G8's with the 6 liter engine. The weight of his car is 3800lbs dry, so him and I are at pretty much the same weight. No more weight excuses these days.

And what cars seem to be worth anything now? That old Chevelle 454 or the K-cars that replaced em?

And what cars seem to be worth anything now? That old Chevelle 454 or the K-cars that replaced em? Well, a 72 454 ain't worth a lot because they were dog slow, but a 70 Chevelle is a different story. I think the new cars (Charger, Challenger, Camaro, Mustang) will always be worth a lot of money, it's just that like in 1970 when the "best of the best" were being produced, the crap that followed was pretty boring. I think we are heading into a boring stretch.... It's not that they can't make exciting cars with great performance, it's just that people won't be buying them anymore. This will make the new cars instant classics which, like in 1970 when I couldn't afford one, I won't be able to afford one of these now. I'm always a "day late" and about $10 short.

New 2009 Z28 is said to have the Supercharged corvette engine Detuned "HA" from the ZR1.
That and IRS. This will become the new top dog. In the new late muscle car era.
If I was only made out of money.

I don't think Chevy will do that for the simple reason that if the Z/28 has an LS9 what would they do for an SS? I suspect that as in recent years the Z/28 will be the base V-8 model, likely the 430-hp LS3. But I've definitely been wrong before...
And then there's the 550-hp supercharged LS engine that's in the 2009 CTS-V. We might see that show up somewhere else, too.

According to I think Road and Track the Z28 will be the top model SS will fall under. But who knows.

Heavy Cars with Pep are always the coolest....
Gutting a heavy Luxury car to make it fast doesnt cut it....You lose so much class for speed....Whats a Lincoln without power windows and A/C and power seats..Its a stripped down LTD....
Dollar for dollar for total speed and MPG....Nothing beats a Motorcycle...Thats why I dont race cars anymore...
