Brake light problem

Hello everyone,

I am having a problem with my rear brake lights. Upon braking, it takes close to 1/4 to 1/2 of pedal pressure to make the brake lights engage and light up. This could be a very dangerous situation obviously. Well tonight I took a drive and they completely went out.

My question is if the brake switch may be the culprit, where it is located, how hard are they to replace, and is it something NAPA or any other parts store may have on hand?

What year SC? Not sure it matters...

I believe the stoplight switch itself is under the dash, on the top of the brake pedal arm, where it connects to the push-rod/pivot thru the firewall.

Should be something the average auto parts store would have - maybe $10~$12. Call first and remember that SCs have anti-lock brakes.

took me ~12 min total to change mine out

autozone has it part #F4838, made by duralast only cost $6.99

Something that will help is to bend the pressure plate so that it is not flat but rather curved like in this picture.
