Jim I havent been trying to build a top SC Bird over the past few years.
I have been getting the parts together and testing them with a stock
motor.
My plans have been to build more efficant motor for my 1990 SC Bird.
And use it for local weekin car/bike shows. To pull a trailor & haul a
1980/1990 eara H.D Pro-Mod/ Pro-stock drag bike on it. Retain good
fuel mileage, 25 MPG. for when I want to drive it to the grocey store..
My hopes and plans where to have around 325 to 350 RWHP.
I have another SC 3.8 motor that I hope to assemble some day. I have
plans to excede 550rwhp. with All motor. But I want to build or buy
a roller rail chassis to run this motor in. Most likey will run a glide trans
behind it. This is the trype set-up that would suit me best,a 6 banger
bracket car. If I keep the boost level down, and run around 400 RWHP.
This should be a fun/fast enough car thats easier to maintane. I would
feel happier and more at home, reaching though a tube chassis to work
on a 3.8 SC motor.
These two ideas have always been my plans. If I run into a roller rail
chassis, or an affordable narrowed rear end, etc. I will do the tube
chassis car. If the rail roller or I don't run into affordable parts for a build.
I will have a spare motor for my SC Bird somday.
I suppose time will tell me what I will be doing. My builds are
typical as everyone elses builds. Except for more fiberglass body
parts, heads, manifold, blower, etc on the 90 SC Bird. On my built
motor heads, manifold, headers, blower, etc more hand built parts,
will be different than others builds.
I am doing most what you or anyone would do for building there motors.
The only diffence, the car or the rail chassis that I will be using will be
much lighter than most.My 90 SC Bird will look complete, not a stipped
out car to lighten.
