What if we aren't plannin on racing? My car probably won't be broken in enough for me to want to race it yet. But I would like to come and hang out for at least one day with all the great SC minds. Maybe even get my car tuned when I'm down there. Should I just register even if I'm not planning on racing?

Just kidding:D! Go to www.sc-shootout.com all the details are there. Signing up as a spectator gets you a t-shirt, lunch, entrance to the track, and a event packet with directions to everything going on if I remember correctly. I came to a few events before my car was running just to check out other cars and hang out.

Shane,
I heard it yesterday and it's the loudest most annoying exhaust I've ever heard on any car....actually hurts your head at WOT. It's 3.8 SC with open mid length headers and a pair of 8" long downtubes dumping under the car (Tim K's old car).

Curtis,
Just add an X pipe and it will sound much better and it won't lose any power. Something about the frequency of this v6 with open pipes that really hurts your ears at WOT.
That's how you bought the car, so we don't hold you responsible ;)

Ken,
Ohio is central to the majority of SCCoA members who expressed an interest in attending the past couple of years. I believe it is also central to the majority of SCCoA members.

The official word is that anyone who wishes to participate in the event with other than an MN12/FN10 may do so provided that 1) They pay full price for registration, and 2) they either own an MN12/FN10 which is apart and can't be there, or are friends with someone who does and is attending.
So that means yes, he can attend and race as long as you are/do also. Any non-MN12/FN10 cars will be classified in the bracket class.

We went to Oklahoma a few years ago and it was almost the same exact group of people!!
That kind of tells me that whoever really wants to go to the Shootout will go no matter where it's held. If you dig the Shootout, then you will go even if it's a short or long drive.
I'll bring these items up for the 2009 Shootout but here are some of my thoughts for now:
Possibly change locations (not a deal breaker for me since I'll go no matter where it's held).
Move the date of the Shootout so that families with kids can attend while the kids are on summer break (this would make for a good family vacation that could be planned each year).
What are we doing now so that there will be a Shootout the following year (maybe start collecting monies so that we have some sort of reserve in case the event is not sponsored)
Incorporate a group picture of all attendees and their cars (see my post about this one in the events forum)
What a bunch of sissies!! That exhaust souds great. You just have to wear ear plugs when you drive it.:D Dalke is tone deaf anyway so what does he know!!:D

Personally I don't see where anyone here has the guts to challenge Mr. Neibert in Pro Street. Don't we have any fast street SC's this year? All of you guys pussing out? What happened to the "easy 11's" car from NY??? There was a lot of talk about it at Carlisle this year......

I'd love to give Dave a go in Pro-Street but until I prove I can drive the thing that quick I'm hedging my bets......the 117mph speeds should get me there but my slow a$$ 60' times aint gettin it done.
I've got a couple more practice sessions in the work before the shootout so if I"m up to it by then hopefully I can move up a class.
Would it be possible to update the list of registrants to include classes?

No worries Brian...I'm the slowest guy on the tree you will ever race against, and in heads up racing, low ET doesn't always determine the winner.

Well I know I don't drive a blue car so that ain't me!! :D In fact I haven't seen nor heard from FKR in some time. I wonder if they will even be making the trip.
Now I would love to step up to meet the challenge Mr. N. poses however as much faith as I have in the car I still don't have the damn driver mod working properly!!
But I haven't given up yet so we shall see. I seem to have a knack for breaking out during time trials so who knows what will be. Perhaps Mr. Tuck and I will have to create scoring problems again this year by doing just that. ;)

Jeeez give a guy a break huh? Everyone wants to take my car and beat David!! Why does everyone think that they're that much better then I am!!??!! It takes time to for the car and driver to meld into an effective and the well oiled machine that is needed in order to compete with the best of the best. In order to function at that level you need to develop a level of comfort with the vehicle and your crew, sharp reactions, excellent timing, and most of all the strength of character and the will to win that all great athletes have! This isn't just something you can drain a Bud Lite and hop in the car and do!! :p
So okay okay..... whatever. Maybe if David really is as bad off the lights as he wants everyone to think he is I can make up some time there. ;) :p :D But two seconds guys...??? gi'mme a break!!

What are flapping your gums about old man? The best I've seen David run is 11.4x. Unless your car runs 13.50's I don't think there would be 2 seconds separating you. Now if you race Jim, that's a different story. I hear he doesn't sleep at the line.....

Because it had degraded into a pissing contest filled with multiple examples of posting rule violations such as namecalling and questioning of motives so I deleted it.

Duffy,
The purpose of that thread was to get people fired up about attending the Shootout. Same deal with challenging Jim to a match race. That's also why it was posted in non-tech instead of the racing or the events forums. It's all part of promoting our biggest event of the year.
I agree that people don't need to be violating the rules to participate in the thread.

I'm sure some would be happy if I did that, but given I have been contacting restoration vendors of late and directing them to the site in hopes of getting them interested in supporting our cars I am not willing to expose them to your "fun". Couple that with my feeling that racing as a topic gives no one the right to violate the board posting rules AND given I have gotten complaints about people going too far........not going to happen. Now we all know there are other boards available for folks to carry on all they want so perhaps you could just move this "stuff" there huh?

>I have been contacting restoration vendors of late and directing them to the site in hopes of getting them interested in supporting our cars
Oh, yeah - that's right...
>I am trying to restore the one I have (http://www.sccoa.com/forums/showthread.php?p=756695#post756695) (95 5 speed) this way with all original parts.
So, what kind of deals have you struck so far that others can take advantage of as well?

Hmm....seems as though you are questioning if I am telling the truth so here is a copy of the email sent to one vendor.

Dear Sir,
My name is Mark Floyd. I am one of the Co-Administrators for the Super Coupe Club of America a not-for-profit car club oriented towards the 1989 to 1995 Ford Thunderbird Super Coupes as well as the similarly powered 1989-1990 Mercury Cougar XR7’s. You are invited to visit our club’s website at www.sccoa.com. We currently have over 600 members worldwide since we are primarily an internet based club.
As our cars age, it is getting increasingly difficult to maintain and improve the interior appearance of our cars. Since an aspect of our club is the preservation of these cars, we are contacting reproduction parts suppliers in the hopes they may make products available for our cars. Steele Rubber is one supplier that recently started producing replacement weather-stripping for these cars. For those suppliers that are not aware of our club, we are extending invitations to visit our site and to post advertisements on our board if you have products available to ensure our members are aware of your offerings. There is no fee for posting in our public forums and this provides another channel to market at no cost to you.
Since I am a prior customer of SMS, (I purchased new fabric for my 1992 Super Coupe which was a multi-colored tweed material…relatively rare) I also currently have a sample request pending for the 1995 Super Coupe I am restoring. I know you presently have products that would be of interest to our members. I would also offer the services of our members in identifying other materials used in this model.
Another problem we are having is due to the construction methods of the early model (89-93) door panels, the driver’s side handles often pull free of the panel partially due to plastic tab failure used to secure the handle. I believe this might be a business opportunity for your company if you would choose to reproduce these panels. While the materials and trim might vary, the basic panel is the same for all Thunderbirds of that era of which there were well over 500,000 cars made.
Thank you for your consideration. If there is anything we can do to assist your efforts please contact me. I hope to see an advertisement posting soon on our board. I would suggest placing it in the “New Products and Services” Forum.
Regards,
Mark “Duffy” Floyd
SMS Auto Fabric does have the material for at least several of our cars like the 92 ebony tweed material for door inserts and seats and the 95 med. opal cloth for the door inserts. I know cause I have purchased both. What else they might have for our cars is part of what I was trying to get them onboard to find out. Material costs about $80 a square yard. It should be noted though that I have no use for the door panels I asked about since I have an OEM NOS Panel I recently bought from Alpha Automotive who by the way I also directed to the site when I discussed my purchase with the owner and I posted information about them in the Restoration Forum when I found the panel so others were aware.
I guess you haven't been following my requests for trying to get 5 speed shifter boots, shifter knobs, leather shifter boots either huh? Steele Rubber has shown some interest in picking up the rubber and metal shifter boot. See this post????
http://www.sccoa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97499
Tried to buy any front diff bushings recently? Steele Rubber is willing to look at making those too though I think I have located the OEM Mfg. and may have a suitable substitute from them that retains OEM performance and even upgraded bushings for heavy duty use.
I have "struck" no deals with any suppliers that other can't get for themselves. I have never profitted by my association with this club at the expense of others.

Great... Why did the "Who is going to the Shootout" thread get deleted ?
David
I think because threads in this forum are now for discussion of new parts suppliers.
What I am trying to say is.
What does this have to do with racing?
The other thread while a little on the crazy side at least did have something to do with racing. I'm just hoping that people actually show up instead of just brag about their car.

Chill, big guy :)
To the contrary - And yes, I've seen all of your requests, but no follow-ups if something specific had worked out. That's why it seemed like a good time to ask.
I contacted Trent Poole/Steele Rubber directly about a certain weatherstripping and was told "At this time, there are no plans to offer.... We just don not get enough requests to justify what it would cost to produce it."
I had a '64 Fairlane 390 GT/A as a restoration project several years back, and the number of vendors with catalogs, etc. catering to that market made things much easier. Hopefully SC's can garner a similar level of support at some point in the future. Good luck w/your '95.

KMT,
Guess you talked to the wrong guy then....not the response I got from Eric Saltrick.
"Projects" take time. AL Rad alternative has been ongoing for over 5 years. Don't have any brake lines yet from folks either even though we (the club) have offered to pay for them. But at least I am trying.....repeatedly. But the thing folks might not realize is this is not just a restoration issue. Obsolete parts issues are going to park all our cars if we don't try to do all we can.
Back to the trash talking (within the rules of course) which is the real intent of this thread. But you are free to start another thread if you like to discuss this issue further.

+1 Ive never seen you in a car that wasnt on the rollers:p That's because the back of my head looks about the same as anyone elses. Strapping me down to the rollers is the only way anyone can get a look at me actually driving.
