I'm probalby going to add one of these things to my 89. I noticed quite a bit of oil dripping on the drivers side valve cover while I was driving the car and had the little hose unplugged. I was looking for both items on ebay and to my surprice the oil separator and a pretty big chrome catch can are about the same price. Is there a difference between the two? Is one better than the other? I was thinking that since the oil separator appears to be much smaller it would be cheaper...but from ebay prices, they are not.

i added a catch can this year. i took out the pcv valve and replaced it with a elbow like on the driver's side. tee'd the two together down to the can, witch is mounted where the air silencer used to be. the outlet of the can is routed to the stock location of the driver's side vent, which is the inlet tube to the throttle body. this setup pulls all condensation and some oil out. i have to drain it about every 500 miles or so. it keeps the entire intake oil free.

i guess what I'm a little confused about is wether they are the same or if they do different things. If they're different....i wonder how?:confused:

they are 2 ways of doing the same thing. the oil separator is smaller and filters the oil out of the air. the catch can uses gravity to get the oil out. the separator can be quickly put in line and the can requires a little more reconfiquiring. imo the catch can traps much more than the separator.

So which oil catch can kit is better? Which one to use?

i bought the cheapest one i could find. every connection on it leaked. resealed all connections with rtv and it works great. so if you go cheap make sure you check it out.

I was thinking of using this one because my bud has it on his turbo coupe and it looks pretty decent:

That link shows you pix...but i've seen that same one for less than $30..i just picked that one for the pix.

In any case, i have to double check to see if we have enough space for this thing SOMEWHERE in teh engine bay first before I buy it. If not, maybe in the rad support...but then you'd have long lines going to it.
