How far was I from balancer failure?

I noticed when I stripped my engine down that the balancer was in rough shape. The outer ring was real wobbly and there were pieces of black plastic or hard rubber that I could actually pull out from between the outer ring. How long do you think it would've been before it actually snapped? It has about 135K on it.
