Figured i'd ask the experts since you guys have to deal with the supercharged + tiny radiator problem too
This is in the Taurus with the 4.3 windstar motor and supercoupe heads/lower/blower.
At idle it warms up to about ~190 or so and pretty much holds steady there, after a cruise though, even without running it hard the temps begin to climb towards 210, hard runs = about 220 degrees and even after returning to idle in park the temps do not drop back down.
I'm running the Mr Gasket high flow 180* tstat with a 1/8" bleed hole drilled in, also running 50/50 water/coolant and a bottle of water wetter.
I wonder if I simply don't have enough surface area for the radiator to cool effectively, i'm using an all aluminum AFCO 80104N Scirocco style radiator, core size = 18x12.5x2.5 l/h/thickness. I was hoping the extra thickness would help compensate for the smaller surface area compared to the stock taurus rad (about 25x15x1). I have a 10" ebay puller fan+shroud, hard to track down the exact rating but it appears to be about 1200CFM.
Like many of you I have a large FMIC completely blocking the rad, I belive its the common 24x12x3 IC.
Ambient temps ~60-70*F so far, I can see this may be an issue during the summer.
Any suggestions? I'm not sure if
1) I should waste time trying higher CFM fans and/or mounting an additional pusher, or ...
2) Is that radiator is simply no good and I should look elsewhere, perhaps another brand of similar dimensions or do I NEED more thickness? surface area? I'm hoping to get something about overall 13" tall max, about 28" wide max.
