Pass Time from Speed channel was at Atlanta Dragway this weekend to tape 10 episodes. For those of you who may not have seen this program yet, it's on weekday evenings at 7:30 and 11:30 where contestants try to guess what ET each car will run. They had a time trial session on Friday but picked the cars on appearance and crowd appeal rather than how we ran. My 2 pit mates got picked for the 1st episode and I'm in the 10th episode with 10
cars per episode including the combo round. Unfortunately, 3 big rainstorms put a bit of a damper on the weekend and slowed everything down quite a bit but they managed to get all 10 episodes completed by 2am on Sunday morning. Being in the last episode, I got home at 3 in the morning. It was taking over an hour to tape each episode so we did a lot of standing around and socializing rather than racing. There were lots of fast and beautiful cars there so I feel fortunate to have made the field.
Friday night's taping was marred by a bad crash but that was the only mishap. It was an Outlaw 10.5 Mustang that ran a 6.42 @ 223mph in the afternoon. Apparently he was carrying the front end off of the track most of the way down and when it dropped, it veered into the wall and barrel rolled across finish line with an 8 something ET. Fortunately, the driver was unhurt but the car was totaled. They got the whole thing on tape and will air it complete. They did the intros where they show the driver and car closeups in the staging lanes and then we lined up for the passes. I was wearing my SCCoA T-shirt so hopefully we'll get some exposure. My 3 questions were: How much HP? (315 on last dyno tune), How much does it weigh? (just under 3500lbs), and What kind of tires? (M/T ET Streets). I ended up having to make 2 passes though. There had been a problem with the clock off and on during the day and I didn't get a time on my pass so I had to hot lap it and do a retake. I still ran a good clean 13.31 but will always wonder what time I ran with the long cooldown and cool temperatures. The dew had set and I was looking for a 12.99 or so but now I'll never know. A 13.31 is quite respectable though, and the SC has been real consistent running a 13.3 almost everytime I run except after the dew sets where it picks up about a quarter of a second.
They were cautioning everybody not to be touching Paige when she escorted them from the car to the interview. Apparently, at the Tucson event some of the guys played a little grabass with her and she got a bit upset over that. All in all it was a great experience and I don't think I embarassed myself any so I'm looking forward to watching the episodes and my 13 seconds of fame when they're aired in Sept and Oct.
