went to Sunset dragstrip tonight. They actually canceled racing tonight because of the high winds. Alex, the owner, let me make a couple test passes. traction is always an issue there, and since i was the only car that ran it was far worse than usual. but I need to do a little adjusting on the belt setup. I ripped off 3 ribs on the burnout. spun it pretty much the whole way. started to get a little too much out of shape, so i shifted into 3rd early (5900 rpm) and it got worse. so i got out of it and actually started hitting the brakes ( a bit nervous about the brakes also.) I was still surprised to see 7.08 come up. It feels REAL strong. can't wait till next week!

congrats dude don't hesitate to pull out of it, if its getting to loose its not worth it to risk your ride for a time slip.

whats wheels are you running? what do they do for prep at that track?

the wheels are Bogart welded RT. it is just a non sanctioned 1/8 mile track. no prep. between the loose track and extreme wind. it got pretty loose. but it is an awesome place to test and have a ton of fun

Was just at sunset this morning with my 89 sc 5 speed for the 10am-2pm time trials. I definitely had traction problems with my pretty much stock set up. You will have to let me know next time you are going to run, i just bought mine a few weeks ago, i would like to check out your car. Ben

just some info i got off my LM1

I got out of it at 5.34 seconds into the run. shifted into 2nd at 1.67 seconds at 6760 RPM, shifted into 3rd at 4.26 seconds at 6030 RPM. I did not use ice in the IC water tank and the air intake temp started at 65 degrees and ended at 69. and water temp started at 162 and ended at 170. AFR was a little rich (for what i usually run 12.5-12.7) at 11.9 - 12.1.

Kevin what kind of boost is the new setup making? Does it seem to have a noticably more amount of power?

I was just wondering what kind of crowd usually races on saturday nights? When i was there sunday morning, most all of the cars were trailered drag cars. I had no chance of keeping up with any of them. I didnt know if on saturday nights there were more street cars or not. My first time actually racing at a strip, i had a lot of fun even though i couldnt really beat anyone. Just wondered.

My car is pretty much all stock, it's good that a few of you guys are interested in going Saturday. That way i can take a look at what you guys have done to your cars and get some more info on them. Looking forward to seeing what my car COULD run like. It will be interesting if you guys can make it.

yes, on the warm up lap, I got on it a little and the belt walked and shredded:(. I am removing the solid idler pulley. that seems to be the problem.

I went this weekend, belts stayed on, I need to adjust tensioner. It was running out of range. It was only pulling 20 PSI. but ran a 6.62. would have went in the 50's during eliminations but had to lift from breaking out. looking promising!

Kevin Leitem
06-12-2009, 04:27 PM
I did make it to the track. 1/8 mile. went 6.62 in time trials. but as night approached I had to lift to keep from running under. probably would have run high 6.5. (best time ever was 6.41.) I still need to do some work on the belt. I moved the one pulley and didn't have much wrap and was only getting 19 LBS boost. now I need to move the pulley to get more wrap and more boost. but last night i was backing the car in the garage and my header hit and messed the header up pretty bad:( so i will be looking for a set of long tubes.

I have been going to the 1/8 a lot, been having trouble keeping the belt on. got that fixed. but was down on boost and ET (6.62) it turns out that was spinning the charger slower than i thought. I have been spinning it about the same as when i was running 10.50's. I put some more od in it for this weekend.

Kevin,

Are you slipping the belt or talking about an error in calculating the blower speed and pulley diameters ? Either way I hope you get it sorted out before the Shootout.
