I started this project over three years ago, and this is my story:
I sent my 1991 Supercoupe to New Mexico for a custom turbo installation that never happened and the car sat in the dessert for 2 years. That was back in '03 and I am sure most of you old-timers on the board remember me crying about it constantly.
I bought a '00 Spring Feature Addition Mustang GT (zinc yellow) in '06 and I decided to install an HP Performance twin-turbo ( two 50mm turbos) system on it after they cut me a good deal after the SC saga. The Mustang was instantly transformed into a BEAST with about 425rwhp.
It did not take long (6months) before the turbo system totally crushed the stock transmission (T-45). I repaired the transmission for the hefty sum of $900, but before long the torque from the turbos trashed the transmission again. I was done with replacing transmissions, so I ordered a TKO 600 Tremec and a Stage III Spec Clutch. Little did I know the issues were just beginning....
Next, in line was the engine. The boost from the HP kit was kept at a conservative 8psi in order to baby the stock Ford engine. Soon, that 8psi proved to be too much for the stock engine and oil was spitting out of the driver's side valve cover when I revved the engine. Time for a new engine, so I contacted MMR (Modular Mustang Racing) and ordered their 950 Stroker shortblock 5.0L and their Stage II Turbo Cams. I also ordered a Victor Jr, intake manifold to be used with my 75mm throttle body and Accufab plenum. MMR also sold me a nice set of fuel rails to match the Victor Jr. intake.
I then ordered and pre-paid for a set of Trick Flow's new 2V heads (yet to be released) and they are supposed to be here the first of July. I ordered the 44cc heads for lower compression with my turbo setup.
I am now in need of the following items to finish my build:
* A new clutch
*Alluminum Flywheel
*Fuel injectors
*Fuel system
I am open for any and all advise you guys can give me. My goal is to run low 10's to high 9's with my conbination. I believe I can attain 800rwhp on pump gas with this combination, and hopefully that will be enough to get the job done. Any opinions, suggestions? :shrug:
Also I am on the east coast and I will need really good advice on a programmer/tuner and a place to have this all dyno'ed.
Lastly, what numbers do you guys expect?
Frank
