oil cooler leaking coolant into oil?

anyone see this happen? I am in the process of rebuilding a used engine that some how got coolant into at least one cylinder. The head gaskets and heads show no indication they leaked. I just want to eliminate any problems before it gets put together

thanks

I'm not sure if it's possible for the coolant to have escaped out of the oil cooler and into the oil, the design doesn't allow for it. It's just a hollow circle that wraps around the oil inlet for the filter. I could be wrong, would need to look at it again.

Ya know, I dont know what engine you have there but on the 4.6 DOHC, there is a plate behind the oil filter that has both water and oil passages in it. Its a pretty common Mark VIII problem for them to leak oil onto the ground, particularly on cold start ups. My understanding is that if they can leak externally, thay can also leak internally. Does the 3.8 have a similar plate??
