ive had my sc for years now and it whent down with a broken balancer that left the snout on the crank! i know this has been done to death and i have reasearched any found just about everything i needed to know BESIDES how to get the timing chain off! im going with a bjh blancer and i got the cover off and everything, i just need to get the chain of fand pull the gear to get the rest of it off

Not sure why you need to pull the chain but to get it off is very simple. Just undo the cam bolt and pull the gear(s) (cam and crank gears) towards you and then the cam gear will fall off the cam and the chain comes with it.

do i have to worry about the timing or teh tensionr? sorry if i sound stupid, but I work on diesel trucks lol and thank you

Yes, you'll want to put timing back together and redo your tension bracket after removing the chain. Timing is SUPER simple, just match up the cam and crank with the marks (might want to read up on that if you've never done it though), the tensioner on the other hand is a bit of a b*tch. You'll need to take two small flat heads and pull the tiny bar up and grab the spring loaded piece and pull up all at the same time and then use a paperclip or something similar to hold it in place until you’re ready to let the tension back.

but wait, if i dont need to pull the chain, the how do i get the rest of the hb off? is there a way to get it off without pulling the cranks gear with it?

The harmonic balancer is only held on by one bolt and that's the one right smack in the middle of it all, it bolts the balanacer to the crank shaft. Once that is removed all you need to do is get a puller on it and yank it off. This depends on how yours broke, if you still have access to two bolt holes (the ones that hold the pulley to the balancer) you can get a puller on it.

Yikes, that sucker sheared right off!

Well, let's get some input from the rest of the club on what you should do next. I'd hate to say it but this might require you removing the crank.

Maybe you could get a three jaw puller and attach to the back of the crank gear and pull it forward.

yeah tell me about it! :D the thre jaw puller hits the pan so it cant be centered yup correctly. so i 2 jaw is the way to i think. but i dont want todamgae the chain but pulling the gear with is still on, ya know?

I hear ya. Do this, loosen and remove the cam gear bolt above, when you pull the crank gear with the puller just make sure you move the cam gear forward with your hands keeping the chain from binding, should be fine.

will do!!!!!!

Mine did the same thing I was told to hit it with a cold chissel to split the steel around the alluminum and then split the aluminum with the cold chissel. But all I had to do was hit a few times and it loosed up and slide off by hand.

thank you! all i did was pull the gear a bit, backed it off and used a smalled puller to get it reast of the way off. im shure i should put lock tite on the cam gear bolt that came off. do you know the torque specs off hand? thanks again :) <a href="http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=382091260&albumID=637695&imageID=18454885"><img src="http://hotlink.myspacecdn.com/images02/95/1b7260b8a059497fae8e6f368d5bbcae/m.jpg" alt="" /></a> <a href="http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=382091260&albumID=637695&imageID=18454883"><img src="http://hotlink.myspacecdn.com/images02/108/803aa13574504689bfcdc81cec013724/m.jpg" alt="" /></a>
