rear end gear hunt

i seem to remember there is a formula for finding the rear end gear ratio by counting to rotations of the tire verse the drive shaft, does anyone know this formula so i can go rear end hunting?? :)

Spin the DS one time and see how many time the wheel turns.

If want less guesstimation spin the DS 10 times.

Close, but you spin the wheel one revolution while counting the revolutions of the pinion/driveshaft. Example: If one wheel revolution spins the driveshaft 3 1/4 turns, you're looking at a 3.27 gear set. If the driveshaft only spins 3 turns, you're looking at a 3.08 gear set, and so on.
