front subframe bar

Whats the purpose of the front subframe bar and can anything be done to it to help rigidness and handling or anything?

I'm not 100% sure, but it seems like it is only there to clip the rubber flap to (that's usually gone on most cars).

The subframe shape and construction seems like it is plenty strong enough to prevent most all back-forth flexing, which is what I would expect a bar in that position to do. I'm sure someone here knows for sure though...

Not sure what it does either but it is under some tension. I unbolted one once upon a time and it sprung open slightly. It was a bitch to get back together.

I personally think it is a brace for the two Strut rod `towers' on the sub frame, to try and give them SOME rigidity
