Being required to press the brake pedal before being able to start my 90 SC is normal? Even on an automatic?

Whats the history behind this strange bit of safety technology? Did all SC's require pressing the brake to start the car?

Seems odd...

Tons of cars are like that now, just as tons of manual cars won't start without the clutch depressed.

Safety interlocks vary by year. It's all covered in the owner's manual.

My 90 SC doesn't need the brake pedal to start or to shift from park.

My 90 was like that. Till the sensor got jacked up and the car wouldn't start. I bypassed it and then it would start normal. Almost left me stranded.

As said above, only 90 AOD cars required brake to start
