Well Dan's transmission decided to take a crap on him on Friday and he didnt get his spare built up and bolted in before Sunday. Lets just say we fought my car all morning and finally made it to the dragstrip around 12:30. The place was packed!!!!! Wall to wall street cars of every make and model. Well I wast he only Thunderbird there... LOL Several Buick GN's/Turbo T's, Turbocharged Z06's, Mustangs and Camaro's... One of the Buicks ran in the 9.80 range!! SICK!!!
Well I went to change tires and broke my adapter. I told Dan before we got out of town that I bet we would regret forgetting the tool box. Hunted all over the pits and didnt find one. Finally took my tires off with a 3/8 drive ratchet. Had to put a charge on the battery and get tech'd in before heading to the staging lanes. Got in the lanes and let the car run to get all the fluids up to temp and then shut it off. Went to start it and it just went "click, click, click"... Fella behind me had a jump box and jumped me so I let the car run while waiting. Finally got the nod to make a pass, did the burn out and the starter stepped in front of me with a mop and told me to back out... Evidentally the car in front of me put something down on the starting line. Had to wait for him to burn it off.. This whole time my car is running because I didnt want to chance the batter not being up to charge. So I look and it is up to 205 temp when I get to make my pass. I ended up with a 12.40 at 109mph.... It was about 77 and by talking to the other fellas in the pits the air was around 3,000 ft for the day.
I was pissed but after thinking about all that went on I could have made another pass and pulled a better time. I didnt feel like waiting another hour or so in the staging lanes and loaded up and headed home. I can only blame myself for not having the car loaded and things ready when the air was better that morning. Besides I had to get home and hang some sheetrock and get it ready for finishing.
Some fella in a Z06 made a comment on how good the "badass T-bird" ran and how someone said "there goes one of those SC's. I thought they where slow turds. He replied "well that one isnt!" They heard the supercharger whine and looked up expecting a Cobra and saw the ole Silver bird..
They are going to have a final midnight run on November 28th and there are several track dates between now and then. So, I will get back out and hopefully get this thing in the 11's with some better planning...
