Optima uses my story

My Advance battery has done the same I sat for 2 1/2yrs and only needed a 1hr charge.

Glad to see they posted your story but IMO if you don't need the real benefits (mounted at off angles or in cabin) of a gel battery there's no need to get one.

The red top in my '91 XR7 is over 7 years old, and is now basically dead thou (haven't driven the car in nearly 2 years)

Optima batteries are not gel batteries. That are an Absorbed Glass Mat design, Spiral Cell. Gel batteries are mostly used in little scooters (Rascal) and Helicopters, as we were told by Johnson Controls the other day in class. Johnson Controls makes the Optima line, the Duralast(Auto Zone) line, Autocraft(Advance Auto) Kirkland (Costco) Ever Start (Wal Mart) and many many more. They also make most OEM batteries for Ford, Chrysler, GM, Toyota, etc...
