Another AOD problem

I bought a 90SC which had not been driven for a few months...maybe 6 or 8 months. I have no way of knowing for sure.... I have driven the car probably 700 miles. It has never attempted to shift from drive into overdrive. This is my 2nd 90 SC , and Im am familiar with the AOD overdrive band being a problem, as I had to have my first SC repaired twice !! I apologize for this long post, but I have searched the forums and I dont seem to be able to find an answer. If it was the cable out of adjustment I would have toasted the trans by now... correct? Is there anything I should be looking for before I pull it out ? What puzzles me, the car was owned by an elderly man , he became ill, was put in a senior home, and the car just sat for a few months. I highly doubt that he was a hot rodder or a leadfoot. The fact that the car was inactive for a time..... could this have a negative impact on the trans ? Please.....
