90 SC - Steering Wheel Vibration/Wobble

Did some searches on this but I am still not sure of my problem (read on).

Symptoms:

Steering has a deliberate "wobble" (really more than a vibration) at low speed (say under 25mph). This wobble lessens as I reach highway speeds.

Car also has a slight "squeek" that increases in rythym with speed.

My first guesses based on other threads were either:

* Wheel bearings
* Control Arms
* Tie Rods
* Ball Joints

So I jacked the car up and checked for any play in the wheel both top to bottom and left to right. Driver side has absolutely zero play, tight as a drum. Passenger side was also tight but had the slightest play left to right.

Now I am talking very little play, to the point where if I am not even sure it is not normal. We are talking probably less than 1/8" of an inch of movement. The tires were replaced less than 300 miles ago so that is not the issue.

Nonetheless my steering wheel at speeds of less than 25mph really wobbles. Any suggestions?

The car drives almost perfect otherwise.

try swaping the tires from front to rear and see if it changes. you may have a bent rim or defective tire.

Good call!

Upon closer inspection my front driver side tire had a broken belt on the inside. Got all 4 new tires now and wow... amazing how that belt, which looked relatively minor made it wobble so much.

She runs smooth as butter now!

Thanks.
