I've rode the dragon many times but never in the Cougar. I plan on going.

Mike, if you're familiar with the area your input might help the guy setting this up since there hasn't been a meeting place picked yet.

I posted a option that does the Dragon and the Charohala Skyway from the TN side which will end up back on the TN side. This is a wicked nice ride on a bike or performance car. Though I have only done it on a bike.

Due to my job as a USAF Military Training Instructor, I may or may not be able to attend. I will sure as hell try though.

BTW, does it matter if I do not end up driving my Super Coupe? As much as I hate to say it, she will hopefully be sold by then. Would a Mercury Marauder still be allowed?

I'd like to get together with everyone but being in the SC for 8hrs with the wife and kids may not fly, though my parents would love a visit. Even though I am required to be there on Mother Days this year thanks to my birthday falling on it again.

My dad has done it on his Honda 750 ACE and he's not too impressed, says there are some better less crowed roads near the GA border.

Well just try to meet up with us at the start, lunch or dinner, etc... Maybe make one run.

Just curious, but better in what way, other than being less crowded? There's always another day to try another road.

I'll have to ask to get the specifics on better but I can try an find out.

As for the 8hrs it will take me that long just to get to Pellississppi, I'm 1 hr west of Dyersburg. If I was to attended I'd leave the kids with my parents in Solway. I guess IF can swing my wife into going I could leave Wenesday (since we only work a 4 day week).

I know what Bowez is talking about. Go because you want to see the scenery and see the infamous Dragon's Tail, but don't expect it to be all that thrilling of a drive. It's really best experienced on a bike. I don't want to pee in anyone's Cheerios, so don't read on if you're psyched about this (cause it's worth going for the scenery alone)...

SPOILER
I like country roads where I can wind the car out to a decent click, rapid decel for some tight twisties, then hammer it again before the next set of turns. Deals Gap isn't that sort of drive in the countryside. Deals Gap is crowded with bikers and isn't restricted to big trucks. What ends up happening is you get a bunch of yahoos on sport bikes screaming around you in turns and/or stuck behind grandpa, tourists on Gold Wings or a box truck taking the road at 10-15mph. /SPOILER

Big trucks are restricted. I have been on that dragon many many times and I have never been caught behind a big truck but I have been behind a camper or too. You can either pass them or they will generally pull off and let you by. Anyways it should be a lot of fun, if your coming to race; save it for the track. Alot of people get killed every year racing the dragon and thats no fun.

I wouldn't come to race and it does sound like a cool meet idea, but I'm not sure I'd want to drive my SC there. Now if I could somehow go back in time and get the Miata back... :D

Kurt, that sounds good to me. I don't think my car will be ready so I plan on taking my bike; as long as the weather is going to be good. Where do you want to meet? Did they clear up the rock slide?

We can meet somewhere in Solway by Pellissippi or I can just meet you at your house since it's pretty close to there. Let me know and pick a time.
I'll have to check on the rock slide, but I think the guys on tccoa said it wasn't on our route. They've put up a bunch of links for current conditions but I haven't had a chance to look at any of it.

Apparently the Dragon is shut down for several weeks, but the event is still on running the skyway with the meeting point and time as originally scheduled.

This is the latest update from the tccoa post yesterday:
After discussing with ssrogers today, we have determined a finalized route for next Saturday! Let me know what you think!
To follow our route easily, see the first map and follow the yellow line on the Cherohala Skyway, then continue to follow the dark orange line back to the Skyway. The route is as follows:

*We will be leaving from Maryville, and follwing Highway 411 to Vonore, TN. In Vonore, we will get onto highway 360. We will follow highway 360 to Telico Plains. In Tellico Plains we will then get onto the Skyway (TN165/NC143) Along the peak of the Skyway we will stop for our group shot. We will continue to follow the Skyway to Robbinsville, NC where we will eat lunch. After lunch we will follow the Skyway to Highway 28 which is also known as Hell-Bender 28 or Moonshiner 28. We will follow Hwy 28 to US 129. We will then follow US 129 back to the Skyway. From there we will head back to Tellico Plains to wrap up the cruise. There are gas stations and conveinent stores along the route, and this route also gives an eclectic mix of driving conditions (twisties, sweepers, straights, decents, climbs), and also gives a ton of amazing scenic veiws. I have attached maps of all of the roads in which we will be travelling. The first shows our "loop", the second Hell-Bender 28, the third is the TN side of the Skyway, and the fourth is the NC side of the Skyway. Check out the elevations on the skyway and the names of spots on the Hellbender! This is going to be an amazing time for sure! One week guys and gals

Our Route is the yellow Skyway, to dark orange, back to yellow Skyway:

Hell-Bender 28:

TN Side of Skyway:

NC Side of Skyway;
I couldn't copy the maps, they are on page ten of the tccoa post.

Well I got some new rubbers and ball joints on the front suspension of my red car and some 99 GT dual piston PBR's, today. Need to install new t stat, install new rear sway bar links, BHJ balancer, new belts, change the oil and get an alignment, then I think I'll be ready. Oh and put on some better tires.

Mike, I still plan on going but my son has a game at 10:00am so I'm going to be playing catch up, hopefully meet you guys at the lunch stop.
I'll be heading out from near the Watt Rd. I40 exit, would the fastest way to Tellico Plains be I75 south to 68?

Not a drop. I was suprised that you there when I caught up with the group, but then remembered the last forecast I heard was up to 40% chance of rain and I figured that must have been what happened.

It actually did rain just for a minute when we got on 360, but that was it. I had a great time, can't say so for the girl friend... I scared her just alittle.:) She didn't like taking 35mph turns at 60-70.:D

Missed ya there Mike.:(

Most of them are on pages 22-24 and the dirty white XR7 is on page 26, it looks like I was within 7 or 8 cars of you guys at that point.

Chris, how do you get the pictures in the body of the post rather than attachments?
