View Full Version : Magnum Powers Group Purchase on MP 94/95 Style Intake Plenum (CLOSED)

Hi All!

On another Group Purchase there were several guys wanting me to have a group purchase on the original MP Intake Plenum for the 94/95 supercharger after Christmas, so here it is!

I have been told several times over the years this plenum is the best product ever produced for the T-Bird SC. This plenum is compatible with a stock 94/95 supercharger and we can port it to the original MPI specifications if requested. The HP gains over the stock plenum is absolutely huge.

The original MP plenum has been out of regular production for a couple of years however we can bring it back for this GP. The original price was $500, and we have sold hundreds at that price.

So here we go, $500 for one or:

If 5 sign up then $400
If 7 then $385
If 10 then $370
If 15 then $350
If 20 then $325

The GP will run through Feb 1. To sign up surf to: http://www.magnumpowers.com/thunder_pro_pri.php and make your $200 deposit.

Now how is that for a deal!!

Charles

Charles, I am not seeing the deposit for the GP on your site. Am I just blind?

Either way, one deposit will be in as soon as I can find the blasted thing, now the rest of you slackers get in on this!!!!!!!

You are not blind, I don't see it either. I refreshed the page and deleted my browser history. As soon as I see where to make the deposit I am there!

Any way you can keep this thread updated with how many people have signed up so far? I'm most likely going to get one, but I could see more people signing up if they know its only going to cost $400, or $350, or whatever, then if they might be on the hook for $500 for one. I'm most likely going to get one, but I need to pay off some christmas debt first so I'll probably be a late joiner.

You Bet, I plan to do that! People can also post here when they make their deposit, and I can confirm it so all is above board. I think five are in the bag judging from the response from the original thread.

Sounds like a good deal.

Of course I will be one to wait until the last possible minute....

Related note: And almost missed this. I think it would be a good idea to have some sort of linkback from the for sale sections to this Group Purchases / Specials area.

I speak for myself but I tend to scan the for sales classifieds, and not float around as much. I would have totally missed this if I hadn't gone to the MP site.
I see others I would have liked to join in on too.

will most likely depend on your other mods, with every bolt on on my car and 10% od, I added the mp inlet and gained 2psi of boost just because the factory inlet was such a restriction.

Hey Corey, when you picked up 2 psi boost was your blower "S" ported and was that before I came out with the 10 rib pulley set?

Cheers,

Magnum Powers

Do you guys remember the MPI? That blower port makes about 20hp more then the "S" port when running the MP 94/95 intake plenum. The MPI requires porting the intake plenum as well as the blower. For those wanting a step up from the 94/95 MP plenum the MPI is an option.

Any other results?

Charles, I see the combination package on your site for the MPI, what would your cost be for just the MPI port? I'm going for a stock of look as I can get on my 94, so that rules out an MPX package, but my cougar is another story.;)

the MPX would look stock.......

It's pretty easy to tell when someone has an MPX when you look at the backside of the blower and see the massive intake ;)

XxSlowpokexX
01-15-2010, 05:43 PM
The inlet just wouldnt look stock. Your other option is a 94-95 blower s ported using a stock inlet. Perhaps CW can help you with that

BUT..Teh MP inlet does look as though it belongs in there and even with an 85mmTB and 3.5 inlet...It just looks like a few bolt ons and nothing to radical. Ive run MP stuff and my engine seriously just looke dlike a detailed stocker with some bling

Just thought I would chime in on how great of a mod this actually is. These results were from my old stock head/stock cam engine from early 2009. I bought a used 94 blower off of Ebay with the stock inlet plenum. I was shocked when I received it as it had a Magnuson sticker on it meaning it had been completey rebuilt and a new rotor pack sometime not to long ago. So I tore it apart and gave it a decent not crazy port job and reassembled with the stock plenum. I ran 15% OD and could barely muster 14 psi with the stock inlet plenum. So I picked up a Magnum Powers high flow inlet plenum and another 5% OD bringing the OD to 20%. Huge difference the plenum and extra OD made. Gained 4 psi to about 18, then ran 13.1 @ 104 in the quarter.

I also ran the same blower with the MP inlet plenum and 20% overdrive on my new engine with the big cam and SCU's CNC ported cylinder heads. It made 17psi and ran 12.54 @108 in the quarter.

I did a study between the stock and mp plenums using my 94 ported blower with different amounts of OD that measured flow rates, ACT temperatures and boost which I posted in the members section under performance. You'll see how far you can go with the stock plenum and when you have to move up to the mp plenum on that blower.

Sounds like a plan for the MPI. MPX would have to wait for me for at least a little while to absorb the costs, but I'd love to see a GP for some down the road ;)

Charles this was on a bone stock long block and a 95 blower I ported. I was running 10% OD 15psi. I switched out for a mp inlet and 70mm bbk and went to 17.5psi. Currently I upped to 15% OD and am runnin 19.8 psi with the same mp inlet, tb and blower.

It takes about a week to have them cast and a week to machine plus about 4-5 days for powder coat. If anyone want's theirs polished that takes about 1 week also.

This is the time to purchase these 94/95 MP Plenums, I normally don't carry them so they are a rare item.

For those of you on the fence, think about it this way: initially it's a cost of $200 for the deposit. Then, the gp has to end, which is still a week away. Then you have approximately two weeks of production time. That gives you nearly a month (three weeks) to come up with the remaining money. Right now the price is already at $400, so it's $200 now and $200 in about three to four weeks. If more people sign up, the price in the three to four weeks continues to drop... for 7 it's $185, for 10 it's $170, for 15 it's $150 and for 20 it's only $125. It sounds like there's about 3 or 4 on the fence right now which would put this gp at about 10. It's a heck of a deal when you can't find used ones for less than $450 usually!

The initial cost is still the same though, $200 up front. For me, it's a pretty good deal the way it's broken up. I just wish the gp's I have serious interest in didn't happen at all the same time! Now I've got to figure out where to come up with another batch of $$...

Sorry, man, but if I were in your position, I wouldn't even be considering a go-fast car part. Maybe it's just the dad of 4 in me that's coming out, but I'd have far more important things to be spending my money on than a go-fast part. If I had a good idea of now many to order I could order the castings now and get a jump on production, but I would hate to order a couple short and then have to do two CNC setups, that would defeat the idea of cutting production costs with higher volumes to support lower sell prices.

Last minute quick question: At what horsepower level is this intake really recommended/designed for? Would it help a stock SC with just an upgraded exhaust? If so how much? That is where my 94 is at for now, but I plan on following "The True Budget performance" thread. Would the MP inlet help at that level? I just don't want to miss out on this deal if it is recommended. The car's function is strictly street performance. I've been doing alot of research, but I just don't think I have found clear answers. Thanks,

Brad,

Fraser's thread is pretty informative. Seems like if you are planning to hit the ~300 hp mark, it would be a good add on and will most likely never come so cheap new.

I will do it for you guys also, but if you aren't able to come up with the balance by the time they are ready to ship I'll have to sell them to someone else because I won't have enough to buy all of your plenums. If that happens and I have to sell them for less than the GP price then you'll lose part of your deposit.

So don't take my offer unless you are pretty sure you will be able to pay the balance by the time they are ready to ship. Paypal address is listed above, personal payments only.

Looks like 26.

Final count with 3 hrs to go is 26.

On this GP I believe they will all go out within about a week of each other, that is the length of time it takes to machine them. It will be about 2 1/2 weeks before the first ones can ship. The foundry man will be working up a sweat next week, then off to powder coat.

If anyone wants their polished let me know asap so I can hold yours out of the powder coating process, I need to know the number of polished plenums by midweek next week.

If you need an EGR adapter remember to order one when you make your final payment. You will be able to make your final payment and then add the EGR to the shopping cart. We need to know which ones require the EGR boss machined.

If you want a polished plenum that option will be available also in the list of MP product items at the site. Polishing is show quality but only in areas that can be seen when the plenum is mounted on the car.

For the people who sent me money, you will make all remaining payments directly to me. Assuming you get the balance in by the time the plenums are ready to ship, they will ship directly to you. We have shipped about 30 inlet plenums out and there are 4 more to go as we ran out. More are being cast this week for the remaining few and I will send an email to those guys effected by this evening.

I also noticed most if not all plenums were shipped without the hardware package so hardware packages are being packaged and shipped today.

Also, I should be getting the EGR adapter castings Monday so I should be able to ship the EGR adaapters to the few requiring EGR adapters by mid week.

Cheers,
Charles

What should I look for to see if I got a hardware package? I guess the obvious, bolts and such but want to make sure.

The H/W package includes 4ea M8x25mm SS bolts plus some hose nipples for hooking up the vacuum lines. The plenums with EGR adapters should have a block off plate and two short M8 bolts.

Ok I got the hardware.

Just needing the EGR adapter. Might need to order a second one too. I bought another plenum that doesn't have it.

I received the plenum, the hardware and the case MP worked on but no EGR adapter.
Plenum looks great and the work done on the case is good.
I can get it assembled but have to wait on the EGR adapter to put it back on the car.

i didn't realize they would have ported my plenum for me. if there was any extra fee i wouldn't have done it..

i was very close to breaking out the carbide bits and go at it some but decided not to.

My foundry guy told me he would bring the egr adapter castings either Monday or Tuesday. He was going to bring them Saturday afternoon but I'm taking my wife for a bike ride on the old Harley to Hood River for the weekend, a beautiful trip on the Washington side of the Columbia river for a hundred miles or so. Hood River is an old city in an area they grow lots of apples, perfect weather for that crop. That area is also a mecca for sail boarding, it is world renowned for the winds that blow down through the gorge in that area. I'm going to relax, drink some beer and just hang out. Got to get away from this place big time.

We should have the egrs adapters machined and shipped out this coming week.

Are there many people interested in the 85mm throttle body? I have 22 castings being machined, all mill work is done, they now need to be bored on the turning center, they should be finished this coming week as well.

Cheers,
Charles

I can send you my glasses brotha. I just installed mine today during the replacement of my cooked blower. My 75mm BBK TB had only about 2mm of meat at the top to cover the hole in the plenum.

Something I want to point out for all to check and maybe Charles can look into it.

When I had everything bolted together and was about to install the new blower into the car, I happened to look into the bore and noticed that the closer egr bolt hole was drilled and tapped so deep that it had broken through the casting. The bulge was very loose and four large chunks of aluminum broke off easily.

If those got pulled through the blower, it could get hurt pretty good. Something you should all check for before installing in case this is not unique to my housing.

I went out and checked mine since I have not installed it yet and both bolts holes did not go through the casting.
I then fit the EGR block off plate that came with the plenum and the bolts bottomed out in the tapped holes before the bolt heads contacted the block off plate.
The bolts definitely needs washers if using the block off plate but I am waiting on the EGR adapter.

Found out today over lunch that the threads for the EGR bolts were clogged. I ran a tap through the threads and know I have no issues with the bolts

I don't need glasses as I have an MP 85MM Tbody bolted to an MP plenum right now and its a perfect match, and measuring with calipers it has an 85MM bore. This is an older plenum, not purchased in this group buy.

Not you Ryan. I know its 85mm. I own two of them. The funky gentleman that said it was only 75mm.;)

Jim,

You could always get shorter bolts. The ones that came with my plenum were only a half inch long if that.

Jim,

You could always get shorter bolts. The ones that came with my plenum were only a half inch long if that.

The ones I received in my kit were also only a half inch long.
It doesn't matter since I am going to use the EGR adapter.
I posted what I saw to let others know in case they are using the block off plate.

I was just bustin your balls dude. She's all good.

I just put my new rectangular blower, MP inlet, 75 mm BBK, 76mm C&L, the tube from my MP cold air kit, 42lb injectors and aluminum 10% overdrive pulley on.

It pegs the boost gauge almost instantly. I don't even know how much boost it is making now. Have some detonation though so I am going to have to install the double IC next.

I was using the block off plate. The bolts didn't even come close to bottoming out but the one hole was busted out. I have never had the EGR. The plate is about 3/4" thick, what about the EGR flange?

"I was just bustin your balls dude. She's all good."

I expect to catch flak here so I wasn't to worried about it.

"I just put my new rectangular blower, MP inlet, 75 mm BBK, 76mm C&L, the tube from my MP cold air kit, 42lb injectors and aluminum 10% overdrive pulley on."

You have almost the same exact setup that I do except I have a 73mm MAF and a 5% pulley so it will interesting to see how mine does.

"I was using the block off plate. The bolts didn't even come close to bottoming out but the one hole was busted out. I have never had the EGR. The plate is about 3/4" thick."

Found my issue over lunch today. There was a lot of crap in threads. I ran a tap in and cleaned the threads. Bolts run all the way in with out the plate so I think I am good to go now.

"what about the EGR flange?"

I don't know about the EGR flange but that does not matter because it will be the EGR adapter that bolts to the plenum and I don't have it yet.

Lol. I have to start differentiating. That wasn't directed at you Jim.

Is your setup complete? Do you have a double IC? I also have underdrive pullies, aluminum driveshaft and Walbro 255 LPH HP pump in newer gas tank.

95 M90 ported to an MP1, Ken Wagner double IC with fan, shortened A/C condenser to allow more air flow to the intercooler, bhj balancer, all stock size aluminum pullies except for the 5% on the blower, shortened Mark VIII driveshaft, walbro 255 fuel pump installed in a 95 fuel tank, SCP catless down tubes, Flow Master American Thunder exhaust kit with a few other things tucked into a 1990 5-speed.

Just to let you all know the EGR adapters are in the CNC now and have one end almost done, the other end should get done sometime later today so we will be able to send the EGR adapters out to the guys who ordered them along with the plenums.

We ran out of plenums before all orders shipped, one or two still are waiting. I had to order a few more castings, which have been cast and are at the powder coater. They should be finished within the next day or two and then them come here to be machined, so we are only a few days to go before the GP is completed.

Cheers,
Charles
