thermostat stuck open or temp gauge

Has anyone ever had their thermostat stick open? On my 93 my gauge doesn't register any temp most of the time, some times it will start to build slowly then jump down below cold mark. It is about 30 deg here and i have 180 thermostat installed less than a year ago. With the chip and tune for 180 thermostat. I would hate to take the thermostat out just to find nothing wrong with it because i know how big of a ~~~~ they are to get a good seal. AC deleted. coolant level good. The car seems to put out good heat even when the heat isn't registering. Any suggestions where to start?

anyone?
got suggestions?

Check the wire connection at the coolant temp sender...it's the single wire sender that is attached to the thermostat housing cover. If your cooling fans are cycling on and off, it's almost certianly the temp sender or a bad connection on the wire going to the sender.

Computer uses a differnt temp sender to control fans and to manage fuel and spark.
