Ok, its prob been asked a hundred times before but i still cant find the answer... Its about the good old mark 8 Driveshaft. i heard they work as a direct fit for aod cars....

i was wondering if they work on 94-95 with automatic (4r70w) someone has had to have tried this before. I am not looking to get a custom one made. just budget bolt in and go

ive been reading about a 1993 mark VIII shaft is a 1 piece or something. if they work on my car what is the mark 8 year span for the "1piece" ?

again sorry if this is a repost. but everyone on here is great so im surei wont hear any crap about it ! =-P

The mark VIII driveshaft is too long for any SC, 5 speed or AOD. If you get one, you need to have it shortened to fit your SC. It will fit in a LX with the 4.6 and 4R70W.

Common Driveshaft Lengths:
94-97 3.8L 4R70W 57" driveshaft (4R70W overall length 32")
89-95 3.8L M5R2 53.80" driveshaft (M5R2 overall length 35")
89-93 3.8L AOD 57.80" driveshaft (AOD overall length 31")
94-97 4.6L 4R70W 58.20" driveshaft (4R70W overall length 32")
93-98 Mark VIII 4R70W 58.20" driveshaft (4R70W overall length 32")
94-04 Crown Vic 4R70W 55.50" driveshaft (4R70W overall length 32")

A few people on here have put the Mark VIII driveshafts into their AOD SC without cutting it - it's less than 1/2 inch longer than the 89-93 SC stock driveshaft. Personally, I would be nervous putting it in without cutting it...but that's just me. :)

I would consider the "do it right" method to be as Mike stated, but it can be installed in an AOD without cutting it. I haven't heard of any problems that have been had by those who did....but you never know.

I'm also running a MarkVIII 93' DS in my 89 AOD with no problems now for a year. You do though have to re-use your old front yoke... the one on the Mark VIII is just a bit larger in Dia.

yeah but i have a 95 with a 4r70w.... is the 4r70w a different length than the aod??

Oops, my fault missed that in the first post. You'll have to get it cut down, welded, and then balanced to make it work. Also, 1993 is the only year the Mark had the one piece shaft.
