Keyless entry question

So im having problems with one of my keyless entry remotes.

I bought a 94 SC tha came with 2 keyless remotes. One works great, other than changing out the batteries. With the other one, it doesnt work at all. I also replaced the batteries. All the numbers on the backs of both remotes match up.

Isnt there a way you can reprogram the remotes to the keyless entry box?

Thanks

Hey Justin!

If you pull the carpet from the drivers side trunk you'll see a black box. This is the same box that has the keyless entry module in the earlier cars and which is near the innertia switch. On this box you'll see a two-prong grey female connector just sitting on the side. Jump the two prongs with the ignition on the "ON" position and hit the buttons on the remote (i usually use a paper clip to jump the leads). Then shut the ignition off and you should have the remot programmed.

On my '90 35th there is a gray box right next to the inertia switch (on the side facing the front of the car) that has 2 connectors going into it. On the box on the left side bottom it says 'CONN' where one connector goes, and 'ENG' on the bottom right side where the other connector goes. Coming out of the left side bottom is a green two wire connector fastened to the harness. It is very short. I think it has a gray wire and a blue wire?

Is this the module and connector that you're talking about?

I have a spare remote from a '98 Escort. If this is the module, will it work with it?

Thanks.

Michael

Hey Michael..congrats on your 35th purchase!:D

Because of the year of your car, I want to say you dont have Remote entry...you may have keyless entry (meaning you may have the big black box on the drivers side trunk)...but only via the keypad on the door...but if I recall correctly, Remote entry (with the little remotes) started being an option in 93+ cars (maybe 92)

Thanks! I've wanted a 5spd 35th for a long time.

Can the unit be retrofitted to the older SC's? There is a a stray straight 8 pin gray connector (with 5 terminals and 3 blanks in it) tucked into the harness back there.

I believe an 'anti-theft' system was available as an option on '90 cars. Wouldn't that have included a key fob remote?

35th 5speeds are the way to go! I sold mine to my brother, but i'm getting the itch again so may start looking for another one :p

As far as the anti-theft goes. There was a factory anti-theft system, but it's independent from the keyless entry (meaning you could have one and not the other). Definatelly no remote entry before 93 (maybe late 92). On these early years you could have the keyless entry and factory alarm, but no remote.

HOWEVER, i do recall reading that a member used the late model module with remote entry and added the factory remote system...but it does require some work. So in a nut shell, it can be retrofitted. ONe thing I remember is that he did it on a car which already had keyless entry so thats a minimum to add the remote entry. Do a quick search, im sure you will find the article.

Yep, the 93 SC 5.0L i bought from you has keyless entry AND remote entry. I was really glad to see that little grey connector when I was digging around there :D. I ended up using the remote from one of my other sc's while I ordered some more from ebay.

Is it possible to post a picture of the area with these components? That would be really helpful!

LOL, you know my wife still talks about that car.
:D

How is the 5.0 SC treating you?

Car is doing good man! Running strong. All I have done so far is full tune up, fixed a few things here and there. I havent even gotten around to putting the new shocks and springs on it. I went to Mike's (Joker) to pick up some parts and took this car...and i got a flickering battery light after some time of driving so I think i may need a new belt soon. Other than that...all A-OK man!:D

I converted my '90 SC to factory remote keyless entry several years ago. The car already had the keyless entry option with the keypad on the driver's door.

Here is a link to an old message thread that details what I had to do:

It's quite a bit of work but it functions great and can easily be reverted back to the original, non-remote set-up. Plug-n-Play so to speak.

I believe only 1993-up models could be ordered with the remote keyless function.

Cheers

Well, i got around to reprogramming the second remote to the SC.

I put a jumper wire in both pins, turned ignition on. The doors locked, and then unlocked, then i pushed the unlock and lock buttons on the remote.

It took quite a few times to get it to work, but i did.

Here is the pic of the connector you will need to look for.

This is what's in my trunk on the driver's quarter panel next to the inertia switch. Does anyone know what this is?

Tucked up under the wiring harness over the wheelwell is a flat gray 8 pin connector with 5 terminals and 3 pins not used. Anyone know what that's for?
