View Full Version : What I learned at the track today.

Today was a learning experience at the track. The weather was a perfect for running great times today, but it was not to be. When I went to the track, my fuel level was lower then I have ever had it before. I figured less fuel equals less weight, which means a better time. Well, it seems a 1.56 60ft time and a 1/4 tank of gas, means all of the fuel goes to the back of the tank and the fuel pump pick up is sucking. During a 1.56-1.60 60ft time launch, just before the 1st and 2nd shift I would suffer fuel starvation. After the car slowed a bit, the engine would pick back up and would finish the pass without skipping a beat. On one pass I had a 1.85 60ft time due to tire spin and had no issues with fuel.

Tsk, tsk. I thought that we'd covered at least a couple times already. If you have a fast car, 1/2 tank should be considered minimum.

It took me years to convince Neibert of that.

i learned that cheap couplings on the hot side of the supercharger piping will heat up and stretch during boost, then collapse during vacum, and solidify collapsed :(

Seems, I missed the meeting which discussed fuels levels. I believe I am okay now. I just purchased the "Fast Car Fuel Levels for Dummies" book.

Was it crowded down there?

There were quit a few people there. The passes did not go as fast as I have seen before. There were 3 lane wet downs from coolant and a car got loose near the 1/8 mile mark and took out the timer. All of those events made things go slow. I only made four passes, my best was a 7.76 with tire spin. The three passes in which I hooked hard, I had fuel starvation from the fuel slamming to the back of the tank.

I figured it would be chaos since everyone's been itching to go all winter. What kind of times was Stangbanger running before his problems?

i only hit a 9.4, launchin like a girl and shiftin like a grandma. it was the first time really hittin the gears since i wrecked it in september. the car has an easy .5 left in it, then i got the cam, tb, and 10% pully to play with.
