Transmission gone maybe

When i put my 92 SC in to OD or D it cuts off but will run in low 1 and if i drive it and go thru the gears and the stop with it in od it will cut off I have to crank it again and put it in low to go or to idle whats wrong
 
has something to do with converter lockup most likely. Its not an electronically controlled transmission transmission
