Stock Computer "chip" question

I have done some searching for my answer and haven't found anything yet but I have what may be a stupid question.

I got my bird given back to me a while back and was told by the previous owner that he had put a "chip" in the car. He couldn't tell me what brand or anything so I am thinking about removing it because it could be doping the car more harm than good.

My possible stupid question is this.

Is there a stock "chip" that comes in the factory computer or is there just a slot that is available to add an aftermarket chip.

I am suspecting that there is a stock chip but am wanting to make sure.

The "stock" tune is a chip soldered directly to the EEC's circuit board, and a tuning "chip" is a small circuit board with a couple of chips on it that plugs into a male socket on the opposite end of the EEC from the wire harness.

As Damon mentioned, you will need to pull the EEC down to get access to it.

Thanks to both of you.

I was thinking along those lines myself but wanted to see for sure what I was getting into.

It'll have to wait because the car is on jack stands with the passengers side almost against the house. :)
