Nick has bin looking for a new project and thanks to RJ he has found one and its a full package
i dragged it to the shop Friday night and he has bin going ever since we soddered up some of the wiring harnesses that the rat chewed though put a battery in it and fired it up
it lives !!!! i guess from sitting something has gone bad it seams to have a blown head gasket but no water in the oil just exhaust coming out of the rad. and coolant out the exhaust pipes.(as far as i know it should be the other way)
but he wanted to do a complete Restoration so here it is
he started with removing the exhaust system then the fuel tank then the drive shaft transmission and engine
tomorrow the interior and the dash
he is on his way and happy (oh boy)
more to come as it comes:cool:

It's great to see that RJ's 90 Anniversary went to a good home. From what I can remember, the car was in pretty good shape.

Keep us posted on the progress.

You are lifting the front from a really bad spot. Put the lift arms on the frame rails next time, that area will crush if the car had its full weight on it.

INDANGERED_BIRD
12-26-2010, 08:53 AM
Yes i saw that to nick moved the arms to put some undercoating on the spots where the arms where lifting the car now the car is off the lift and closer to my tool box to work on the top of the motor

thanks for stopping by Ricardo nick is hopping to put the dash back in next week he has printed out you thread on the wiring for the 5spd we will see how that gos  thanks again for your help

What color is your SCer & plumbing ? Looks sharp :)

INDANGERED_BIRD
01-07-2011, 09:45 AM
the color we used is a RM tint color its a very very very fine silver metallic for painting wheels code D-121 and it didn't come out as well as i was thinking it would we found out the hard way you can't just paint it over a sanded surface nick sprayed a base of silver first (first miscalculation should have bin black) then sanded it with 2000 sand paper and sprayed it with the d-121 (second miscalculation) you can't spray over sanded parts the tint is to fine that even 2000 grit sanding marks show up so spray it again with the base silver then right to the tint then it looks good then clear but i think its too silver nick thinks it's OK and it is his car so on the car it want

well sorry guys
not talking to much but let me fill you in after getting the engine together and in the car and wired up then the moment of truth and believe it or not it fired right up ran great till it warmed up than it started to knocking so OK give it a break for a few days and think
now lets see if its got oil presser well it dose
next step is pull it out
pulled the mains and rod caps off the bearing are shot and had some black pitting so i think it had some water in it at some time well just keep going brought the crank to the machine shop the crank is no good
well some more thinking (this is not good for me) then on to xr7dave after bugging the poop out of him nick want with (Dave's recommendation) 30 over new pistons, piston rings, main bearings, rod bearings, cam bearings, XR7Dave cam, push rods, roller rockers, timing chine, and valve springs
then thanks to Glenn for the motor he had laying around so the block and crank off to the machine shop bored 30 over cleaned decked new frezout plugs got the block back on the 11Th and we worked on to all weekend and by Monday 2:30 am it lives again
nick has lots of pics so i hope to get them up soon

Looks great Chris. Nick has been busy for sure working on that car. It is going to look great!

I have two questions though.... why strip the car to bare metal? I don't remember that car having a ton of paint on it to start with. Generally if the factory paint/base isn't lifting from the metal or rusting just use it as a foundation. Why use zinc chromate as your new base? Everything I have read has stated to use an epoxy primer instead. The epoxy primer is water proof and you can put almost anything over it. Where zinc chromate is a little less tollerant to some top coats. On my project 69 Cougar I started out using zinc chromate and later switched to DP90 epoxy primer to cover bare metal. I now know older bare metal shouldn't be covered with zinc chromate. Newer bare metal is better suited for zinc chromate primer.

Oh and a third question.... where is your resporator:rolleyes:

Bryan

INDANGERED_BIRD
07-13-2011, 10:41 PM
hey bryan
thanks i hope it will look good i am not a very good body man and i think with all the time nick is putting in its going to look great
OK now to the respirator i was holing my breath  just showing nick how to do the sunroof jam that and a door hinge is the only thing i got to paint on the body
we striped it down because the paint was not good
the two doors and quarters have bin repainted and not good + it was hit in the left quarter and i wanted to see how bad it was so we striped all the bondo off i did a little hammer and dolly work and put the bondo back on
now as for the zinc i am a old fart this is the way i was tough to treat bare metal
its self etching zinc and its just one thin coat and then three coats of epoxy primer

Chris.... I'm a little concerned with this statement regarding the use of epoxy primer over zinc phosphate.... from what I've read and understand epoxy primer and zinc are not compatible. They don't play well together. I hope I'm wrong but if I were you I'd talk to your paint supplier. I understand zinc phosphate should only be over coated with 2K primer, sealer, and top coats whether they be lacquers, enamel, or urethanes.
