Won't start

I have a 1990 that just decided to quit starting. When I try to turn it over it clicks as if the gear on the starter is engaging the flywheel but it doesn't turn over. No hum, grind, nothing. Battery appears to be fully charged. It did this once before. I turned on the headlights to see if the battery had anything and they were bright. After that it started right up. Not now. Spent half the day putting a new starter on it and still the same thing. Any experience out there with such a gremlin?

Ignition switch?

if he is hearing a click i was think the ignition switch is fine..

to me sounds like the sound you hear is the solenoid clicking. i would check to see if you have power at the terminal at the starter.. if so i would then think the motor is froze.:( or you have a bad new starter...

pretty easy to test the starter. tho you need to have a good hold on it because it will jump when out of the car.

get jumper cables hook them to your battery.

then hook the neg cable to the housing of the starter.. then hit the power term with the ~~~ cable.. if the start goes round and round. and in and out.. its good...
