94 Tbird SC Gear Selector Issue...

I am having a problem with my gear selector on a 94 Tbird SC. I have already checked the fuses that relate to my shifting system, and the fuses are not blown. What is the next step to solving that problem; currently I have to turn the key and put the selector into “neutral” so I can move the shifter into “drive”. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem?

The brake-shift interlock solenoid may have gone bad. If you want to bypass the problem, you can take the console top off and unhook the interlock cable from the shifter. You'll see how it comes off when you look at it.

Thank you for your advice. I pulled the panel as you suggested, and found the cable attached to the white nylon hook. I disconnected the interlock cable from the shifter, and my shifter problem has been solved.

Thanks again.
