Installing heads today, starting reassembly after headgasket change...

I got the block cleaned up, very clean, and installed the ARP head stud kit (very nice kit BTW). I decided to remove the exhaust manifolds to make reassembly and getting the proper torque values easier. I followed what several members on the board said and once the heads were installed on the head studs, I snugged down the nuts first, then, following the proper sequence, did a three step torque down. The steps were 50, 70 and finally 90 foot pounds.

I have stopped for today, and will be installing the intake and exhaust manifolds tomorrow. I am going to take the reassembly slowly.

Since this is my first SC HG job, does anyone have any other suggestions?

You'll never get another chance to port the exhaust manifolds....

Now would be the perfect time to do it....:D

Where exactly would I port them, at the collector? Where do they need the most work?

The biggest bottleneck is right at the collector. There is a lip on the inside. If you take one, and look inside you should see what I mean.

Are we talking a noticeable increase in HP or increased flow number to help prevent HG failure again in the future?
