View Full Version : SC Shootout Dyno Competition

If you registered for the dyno competition check this:

1) As noted in your registration, the dyno competition costs extra. Arrangements with the dyno are $40 minimum (up to 3 pulls), thereafter $80/hr, maximum 1hr.

2) We have 15 people signed up for the dyno competition, and due to some time restrictions on the dyno, in order to be able to get to all who signed up, we are asking for volunteers for dyno'ing on Friday. If you are going to be in town early and would be willing/able to get on the dyno Friday, please post below so we can get a head count and a tentative schedule going.

3) Unlike some years past, we will allow some tuning on the dyno. If someone needs a little tweaking (less than an hour total) we intend to allow this subject to #1 above. We will NOT allow full on dyno tuning nor will we allow any one person to dominate the dyno. Don't plan on dyno tuning on Friday or Saturday.

4) Dyno tuning can be arranged for Thursday if you will be in town and can do your own tuning or have made arrangements for someone to tune for you. Jeff is a very capable tuner and if you need assistance with your stuff, just ask. Expect additional charge if you want him to tune for you. I suggest you call ahead to make arrangements - again - Thursday only.

5) Fraser is not planning to attend. I am not planning to dyno tune. Just thought I would put that out there before anyone asks.

As a matter of fact, yes I am. I have some old slacks that can take a beating so bring it on. I should be rolling in on Thursday so Friday will work for me.

I can also tune your car, port and polish your heads, flush/clean the inside of your engine or anything else you might need done. I'll be bringing plenty of sand, Drano and dawn soap with me.

Won't get there until Friday afternoon, so I'm planning to dyno Saturday morning. When I registered there wasn't a dyno comp payment option, is that something we pay on-site or when getting our packet at the Hotel ?

David

You will pay the dyno shop, it won't have anything to do with us other than we agreed on a rate - $40 minimum, $80 maximum, no more than 1 hr per car allowed.

Since we only have about 7 hours on Saturday, I suggest that people seriously consider the Friday option. Jeff has to leave at a specific time on Saturday - I think he has a game he has to be at for 5pm - so what isn't done by then isn't happening.

Thur Sept 30 Xenia OH
overnight low of 46
humidity 70%
which means we wake up Fri to damp and dew covered cars.

Fri Oct 1st Xenia OH
Sunny and clear high 70
chance of precipitation 0%
humidity 70%
by lunch time we will have burned off all of the overnight dew
and should have a sunny clear afternoon.

I can live with 70 and little to no moisture ;) :D

...besides, I don't expect to be setting the world on fire this year or even be very competitive actually. too many new participants with powerful new mods for us old has-beens. but I am expected to show up so I will.

Normally on Saturday it's first come, first serve. I'm planning to be there around 9:00 AM to get the coldest air. Really depends on how late I'm out in the parking lot Friday night ;)

Paul

Paul,

Sunday is going to be hard, because I have no idea how it's going to run. My last trip to the track, yeilded a 12.2 @ 113, followed by a 20.6 @ 113 and a final run of 11.9 @ 117. I'm having difficulty getting it to come off the starting line as strong as it should. Hope the new plugs I just installed and revving the motor a few times after doing the burnout will help. Guess I'll find out next week.

Do you have one more kick at the can trackwise this week?

Paul

fturner
09-26-2010, 05:11 PM
As it turns out, its a good thing I'm not going. The car has been running very strong with the new setup, so I went to the track yesterday to get my planned 12.5 ET and I got a best of a 14.4 because the darn rotor back decided to go south on me and elevated my ACT's to 160+ degrees at idle and wouldn't cool down even with alky.... Only a couple of weeks ago I melted the coupler because a bearing started seizing up in the snout I was using and I had to replace that.... luckily so far the case is ok and hasn't been damaged.

I'm installing my last rotor pack, so its time to turn the OD down and settle with a 13 second car for awhile :(.

Updated list for Friday (so we dont' have to keep digging to the back of the thread):

9:00am
9:30 - Jason Jobe
10:00 - Brian Oatway
10:30 - Brian Oatway
11:00

2:00 - Matt Haub
2:30 - Ira Robinson
3:00 - James Smith
3:30 - James Smith
4:00 - Ryan Ruvolo

If you intend to take longer than 1/2 hr then indicate so and we can block off up to 1hr for you. First come first served. I'll update this post to reflect the schedule. Note * all times are approximate. Expect to wait your turn.

At this point I do not expect there to be any "free time" on the dyno. Jeff has to leave at 5pm that means doors closed and locked at 5pm. If anyone else wants on, it will have to be in the morning.

Saturday Jeff has the same schedule, so we'll have to be on top of things which leads me to the next point - Saturday.

Let's start sign ups now, 3 per hour, every 20 minutes.

9:00 - Ricardo Alfonseca
9:20 - David Neibert
9:40 - Alan Stewart
10:00 - Keith Nichols
10:20 - Chris Homan
10:40 - Robert Pearson
11:00 - Will Smith

12:40 - Ryan Zimmerly
1:00 - Casey McCarty
1:20
1:40
2:00
2:20
2:40
3:00

All times approximate. All registered participants have been listed. If you did not specify a time, I went ahead and filled you in. We may have room for one or two more, but only after the above individuals are done. We'll see how the day goes. I know that Ryan and Casey will need a little tuning as may some others. Flexibility has been planned in for that purpose.

That may be true but with a full axle and Mustang weight it should, no offense to the owner. He'd done whats needed to make it fly. BUT, its not your normal MN12 IRS car or normal M90 build.

I may be totally off base but I thought he had a stock shortblock/ No forged parts, with head work and cams as well as other bolt ons, on that motor. If that is not so I apologize!

But if that is so, it is a stock bottom end. I didn't say totally stock engine.

Steve, the car ran 11.30's with IRS and he beat my AR back in 2004, it ain't nuthin new like I said. Now the car is a different animal, but it wasn't always so. Every year the scenario is repeated and every year it seems someone calls foul, but in the end it's always the most prepared who comes out on top. It has next to nothing to do with what blower is being used. This year Keith is ready, which is great and I wish him the best. His biggest competition is going to be Chris, who is equally prepared. ;)

My apology. I thought I knew something that I obviusly didn't if its a built forged bottom end motor.

I was under the impression that it was not. My bad!

Dave, I agree whole heartedly on the most prepared and best set up scenario.

Again, I'm not dissing Kevin's car at all and never have. It is an animal and he has made it so by his time and effort and ability to make changes for it to do so. I've been watching his progress with it for quite a few years just as I did with Coy Millers. Weight, power, suspension, drivetrain or whatever Kevin has made changes and it has worked. He also has the driving skills, seat time to make it happen as well, more than most here.

Its simple, the bar is raised by everyone in their own time and tastes. I think PRO Street class is going to be fun to watch. Most of this year I've been in and around some of the local SC guys, watched suggested and provided my input into their cars, driving skills and combinations. Like a proud papa I hope that they have an outstanding weekend. After all, it is a competition for bragging rights both for the car and the drivers potential.

Looking forward to a fun and exciting weekend with all you guys!! :D

Steve,
I sent Dalke a ton of money for parts when Dave Scott/frdlvr30 built my motor.

The only thing I forgot to buy/add was an AR...........

What's this??? Some self doubt perhaps?? Beware Mr. Tuck whispering in your ear all weekend, "no pressure.... no pressure" LOL

Sux showing up as one of newest BIG DOGS and having to back it up

Now I've seen that car go so I know it's very capable, but you also know there will be a whole bunch of very capable cars this year and one never knows what can happen ;) :D

So mash the gas and enjoy. The rest will take care of itself.

This thread escalated quickly. Push me towards the end of the day. If I could get that extra hour for tuning, then that would be great. We'll see how that goes, I suppose.
