Where is a good company to get headers from? I really don't want to pay 600+ for magnumpowers headers, is that my only option?

pretty much unless you buy mac mustang shorty headers and with alittle modification they will fit

Magnum Powers doesn't make headers. They are made by Kooks and yes, they are your only option for headers. The majority of people have ported thier stock manifolds and have seen a nice gain from that.

I could care less about the gains, I'm just trying to keep from blowing head gaskets heh.

Then I would just port the stocks ones. You should be fine with that.

Who do I need to talk to (what type of place ports stock headers?)

What all will I need to get this done?

How much should I expect to pay?

What about my stock down tubes? should I get new tubes or is there something I can have done with those?

Try tbird88. He does a nice job on the factory exhaust manifolds. He opens them up very nicely for around $125. He has pictures of his ported manifolds on his for sale page.

He will respond to your questions quickly as he helps a lot of people on this board.

Hope this helps.

Bob, ya got me blushin' over here... :)

Anyways... 1FASTSC, I've considered modifyin' a set of MAC headers because that sure looks like the way to go. If I could get j57ltr over here we'd strip an '89 5spd down that I have in the back & use it for a jig to mock them up on. Then I could see where the driver side collector needs to be modded & maybe come up with a "standard" fix for the Macs.

Otherwise, there are several SC'rs around that port stock manifolds. Just post a note asking about some & I'm sure you'll get some replies. As far as my specs are concerned, read the info in the manifold ad on my 4sale page (link below), it explains a few more things you might want to know.

To whoever is considering ported manifolds instead of headers...Keep in mind that the stock manifolds are only (on average) about 2 3/16" outside diameter so the maximum i.d. is 2". Make sure whoever ports them goes up into the collector, not just at the flange.

thanks,

'bird

about time for a bikini shot huh?

shouldnt you only need 1 head for that mean machine. with all that turbo boost i wouldnt think you wouldnt need a header let alone 2, you would have even more turbo lag. or maybe ditch that turbo for a m90 i bet it would make sick power then.....

Hey you could try using the 96-97 3.8 N/A headers.. there just as good as well.. They look better than the stock and go in w/no modifications... the only thing you have to do is modify the EGR Valve line if you have one....

Try lookin for 96-97 ones they are nice..

This was when I had my 95 SC. I also knew absolutely 0 about cars back then. Now I know like....enough to make me an internet messageboard warrior and that's all.
