It's been 1 year, 4 months and 12 days since I've been back in a Ford. Man does it feel good to be back in one, but this time it’s a Truck. I do miss the old Thunderbird, but I have since moved on. A 1999 SVT Lightning that is. I picked her up a couple weeks ago and couldn't be happier with my decision. These pictures were taken at Miller Park in Milwaukee, WI.

Last Dyno was around 527 rwhp / 571 rwtq

Last 1/4 mile was 12.39 @ 109.93

1999 SVT Lightning
63,500 miles

- Forged 5.4 bored .20 over, Manley H-Beam rods, Diamond pistons, APR studded heads, Comp (SC) Cams, Cobra R water pump, Motorsport oil pump.
- Kenne Bell SC
- Accufab single blade throttle body with inlet pipe.
- 60lb injectors
- Accel coils
- Bassani headers, mid pipe with mac cat back.
- Tranny has precision industries 2800 stall converter, AFCO twin cooling fans with twin fan heat exchangers.
- Diablo sport tune
- Comp engineering slide a link suspension, 4:10 gears, rear drop shackles, driveshaft loop.

Thank you!

Josh

Traction may have been an issue. That seems like a slow ET for such a high HP. But then again, I'm no drag racer.

Also, I'm not going to lie - I really don't like that hood. The rest of the truck is awesome :) I'd like to have that drivetrain for my 03 SuperCrew :D

Sweet truck and good numbers, but I dont really see how it is "moved on to better things". I guess it is always in the eye of the beholder as to what each person likes. I wouldnt trade my Tbird for a Lightning.... But that is me and I am sure there are others on here that feel the same way.

Sharp truck Josh. Nice to see a supercharged mod motor back in the stable. I still haven't been able to mentally transition from 1999 when I was picking up my brand new "run of the mill" F150. Those lightnings had just come out and were going for over $45K and I remember thinking "Boy there is a truck I'll never own."

I still love em. Congrats!

Bigger and better things? Pump the brakes there cowboy... There is NO better car than the MN12...And thats a factand my opinion.

On a serious note, good looking ride. What do you drive in the snow?

Nice Lightning!! I agree though for the amount of power you are making you should of been in the mid 11's or AT minimum over 115 in the traps.. What kind of pulley setup are you running? Oh and we are close to being twins.. Here's my 2000 :)

BTW word of advice.. Get rid of the Accel Coils and put brand new stockers back in.. It will save you from pulling out your hair later on..

Oh and another thing I noticed you have a Cobra R water pump.. Those are lighter but actually flow LESS coolant than the stocker so you MAY have cooling problems.. Navigator water pump is the way to go :)

Let me rephrase that, I've moved on. I loved my Thunderbird, but it was a short love affair. The AED set up was not moving me anymore and little things started to go wrong towards the end. Maybe someday I'll get another sport coupe. I've always wanted a Lightning when they first came out so that's what I wanted to get.

Thanks! The winter ride is a Chevy Cobalt.

The power this there but with the 4.10s in the rear there is no traction. That run was on street tires spining off the line. I love the grille on your 2000, where did you get that?

Thanks for the comments guys, always loved the MN12 crowd! :)

i'm under the impression that wheel spin effects ET not trap speed

I didn't like the hood at first, I'm the type that likes to keep the stock look, but it's there for now and it's growing on me. Thanks!

The fact you were spinning still does not equate to a 109mph trap.. If you lost over 8-9mph then the 60ft must of been somewhere in the 2.5 range with the tires still spinning past the 60ft.. And frankly with the KB blower on there 115 is being conservative with it.. You need DR's ASAP..

The grille was an an eBay special.. Its a Harley Davidson grille.. Some company was selling the chrome housing with the grillle for $75 shipped.. I jumped on that.. Too bad the lower is $400 and ONLY available from Ford.. I have a line on one though :D

PS - Dump that hood and put on a 2" cowl.. :p
