Is this a Diode? ANSWERED?

In the process of upgrading my 90 SC to a 92+ fuel tank I replaced the connector pictured below. Is that a diode joining the ground and fuel pump power wires?

Why? I replaced that ~~~ connector with one from a 95 and did not use the diode -will this cause any problems?

Thanks

I found this on a Miata site:

The diode is to protect the PCM from the 'kickback voltage' spike that inductive loads like relay coils and electric motors create when they are turned off. You can go to Radioshack and buy a 1A diode [p/n 1N4001, RS# 276-1101] for $0.99, the band on the diode body is the direction the 'arrow' points. Connect that end to the monitor wire [solder a wire to the diode and splice the wire to the fuel pump monitor wire]. Connect the other end to a good ground like the same screw that the PCM is grounded to [solder another wire to that end of the diode and terminate that wire at the ground screw]. I put heat shrink over the diode & leads so it was insulated.
