'94 SC AOD Tranny - What Type of Differential Oil

How do I determine whether or not my '94 SC with AOD transmission requires the friction modifier in the differential? Is there a tag or stamping on the housing that would indicate whether or not it is a limited-slip unit that would require the friction modifier?

Also, given that I have around 250,000 miles on the vehicle is there a preference as to sticking with conventional gear oil or switching to synthetic? In either case, I have seen differing specifications recommended for the gear oil weight (ie 75/90W, 80/90W, and 75/140W for synthetic).

Would it hurt to use the friction modifier in a non-limited-slip differential?

Thanks,

Ted

THough friction modifier will never hurt any differential, it is pointless without a locking differential. Which your car was not equipped with. Friction modifier is installed to reduce positrac clutch friction....to reduce chatter and heating issues....

Thanks guys. I was pretty certain it did not have a locking differential.

Any recommendation for the brand/weight/type of differential gear oil to use given the mileage (250,000mi)?

Thanks,

Ted
