Where does this go?

I was changing the fluid and filter on my AOD transmission today and when I removed the pan I found this part sitting in the pan. I have no idea where it fell from.

I believe that's just a plug installed at the factory where the dipstick tube connects to the pan. When the tube is installed, it knocks the plug into the pan, where it sits, harmlessly, until you change the fluid. Toss it.

Unless, of course, I'm wrong. I have been before.

I found the same thing the first time I change the transmission fluid on my 96 LX 4.6 that I had bought new. I was told by Ford that it was a plug that was used during assembly for the dipstick hole. It just means that the transmission pan has never been off (unless someone put it back in not knowing what it was for!).
