has anyone dropped a SC motor in a 65 style mustang? i'm toying with this idea, but have no idea how much work it would be to do.

Thanks,
Jeff

well i dont see why it wouldnt fit, 3.8 is about the same as a 351, give or take a bit, and i have heard of 65's w/ 351w's.. the only thing i can think of, you will need to bring over the whole computer system, and any other related computer stuff, upgrade the fuel lines, pump etc to EFI stuff (good time for a 255lph pump :) ) the intercooler will have to be moved somehow i am guessing, seeing as how it wont have that spot next to teh radiator ready made for it.. good time for a FMIC :D probably have to fab up motor mounts, or alter some 289/302 ones, tranny cross member will probably have to be moved/made, custom driveshaft probably, maybe not.. thats all i can think of off the top of my head...

i guess it would be just as hard as swapping in any other EFI motor into a non EFI car...

71 Pinto

I'm already doing a 71 pinto! The platform is pretty much the same. I bought a complete car for the exchange, planning on using the hole drive train, 5 speed, 8.8 inde rear, removing the hole harness, dash, heater, ride control. Should be a sceamer. The factory weight of the car is 1980 lbs. planing on have around 325-350 Hp, and 400-450 lbs of torgue. Engraving on the rear window-Don't even try it my foreign friend, American muscle will do you in.

I got you beat!!!

Ok...
A friend of mine (who shall remain nameless, as he is already brainless), got a sick and twisted idea in his head after seeing my car do its thing. He went and bought a Escort EXP of some poor old lady for like 200 bucks. Then, found a SC in a junkyard (still won't tell me where, punk sucker that he is!!!). Got the motor for about 300, and, uhm, borrowed all the electronics/pumps/wiring when the guy wasn't looking. I didn't find out about this until he comes to me, asking me what I wanted to do to my car, for all the power I could ever want. Now, he has a shell of an EXP, with 2 Recaro racing buckets, stainless interior, an SC 3.8L, with a Magnussen M90 super, front mounted double size intercooler w/fan & water sprayer (his own idea), custom ground cams, hemi pistons (I have NO IDEA where he got those from...I just can't find them for anything, and I know the internet MUCH better), alcohol injection, chip, 10% overdrive pulley, custom cold air intake, REAR WHEEL DRIVE (in an EXP??? you should see the mini drive shaft...it's almost cute), a dual exhaust setup (right where the cat's should be, there is a valve, controlled by a servo from inside the cab, one side of valve goes to mufflers (on 2.5 in pipes, duals), the other to twin 2 in. straight pipes), and a couple other tricks he won't fully let on to...I think one may come in a 15 lb bottle....
It's not fully assembled yet...but I think it's gonna be deadly for imports.
Anybody wanna make a guess at HP???
I'm frightened....

Oh, did I mention he's loaded w/ cash, and bored??? with a half baked mechanical talent???

as for the original post.. WHY?!?!?!?! and as for the guy thats bored with cash and half baked mechanical talent.. you just described somthing i personally would do.. but cant cuz im minus one thing THE CASH!!!!!!!!! anywho..hahahaha... sounds mean

.

"as for the original post.. WHY?!?!?!?! "

why not? i don't see any difference in dropping it in a pinto (like you said you would do) than in a 65 mustang. In my opinion a mustang looks much much much better than a pinto. You can pick up a 65 mustang body and title for under $500, and I have a complete supercoupe without a title that was wrecked and totaled that I picked up. The tranny is bad though.
