91 cougar xr7 won't shift out of first

I have a 90 cougar xr7 auto. I had no tranny problems than all of a sudden it won't shift out of first gear. It will go in reverse and first. Fluid is full and clean. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you done anything with the throttle body or messed with the TV cable at the throttle body? The TV cable connects at the TB and plays a very important part in the shifting of the AOD trans.
 
Ok. It was the cable. It was stuck in the open position. I pushed it back and presto shifting again. What would cause it to get stuck open like that. Should I just replace that cable?
 
What condition is the plastic grommet....

Ford makes a brass bushing with a clip that replaces the grommet....
 
It seems like there is some restriction when you slide the cable in and out. The gromet seems ok. The spring looks a little rough.
