View Full Version : Dynotech 3.5" Aluminum Driveshaft, CLOSED

rzimmerl
04-17-2011, 11:52 AM
I have contacted Dynotech about getting a driveshaft, and have been quoted for a single replacement. So I thought why not start a group buy if they are interested again. What we would be getting is a 3.5" aluminum shaft complete with transmission yoke, solid body u-joints, rear flange, and high speed balanced. Shipping and handling is free in the US.

http://www.dynotechengineering.com/

If you are in post here with your year and transmission, or a custom length.

Alan at DirtyDog Performance will be handling all the details on ordering for this. As stated in another post you must contact him so he can take all your information and method of payment.

Loops will be $40 in a GP, I was talking about the driveshafts for $375.

Everyone who wants in on driveshafts or loops send me an email to alan at dirtydogperformance dot com. once 10 are counted I will get payments and make the orders.
Alan

Price is $375 each for an order of 10 shafts
1. rzimmerl - 90 AOD
2. XR7 Dave - custom - paid
3. XR7 Dave - custom - paid
4. ScrapSC - 90 AOD
5. Nickleman60 - 94 4R70W - paid
6. Payton - paid
7. Victor Malvar
8. jabaldaz - 5 speed
9. XR7Dave - paid
10. supercharged95 - 94 4R70W
11. macius8

UPDATE 4/28/2011

Everyone that signed up needs to contact Alan for payment and shipping details. The requirement of 10 shafts has been met and payments need to be collected.

Shipping clarification!
Shipping within the continental US is included. If you are not within the continental US other shipping arrangements must be made. Dynotech will ship anywhere within the continental US. If you have an air cargo facility you use for international orders or other place to ship the shaft to be picked up it can be sent there. I would prefer not to have shafts sent here as international shipping on these things can be complicated and UPS has severely ripped me off before by shipping one. If USPS would take them I would have no problem with them at all.
Now on that note everyone needs to contact me to finalize this.

We need at least 10 to run another GP, I also just made loops to protect them I will try to get pictures of an installed one by the end of the week. If we get a gp going on 20 of the loops I can get them done for about $40 each plus shipping, buying at 10 a time is about $55 so 20 is definately the better deal. The way I understand it is that 20 uses more of the material on the table but does nto exceed one sheet so the cost of putting the sheet on the laser is greatly reduced.
Here is a picture of an assembled one.

Probably not what you guys are wanting to hear but $375 each shipped is as good as it gets, add 3% for credit card payments. I was afraid they would have gone up quite a bit. The supplier that makes parts for them is the same supplier that makes converter parts and everything took a 15% increase at the start of the year. Inflation in full swing.

Sami,

Its a bolt in piece, you'll have to arrange shipping with Alan.

That also make 9 accounted for, 1 to go unless David wants to buy that 3rd one.:D

Dirtyd0g
04-27-2011, 06:21 PM
I will help anyone arrange shipping however I got severely burned by ups over an international shipment and will not allow them to have access to my credit card information for an international shipment. I can set it up and charge it to your method of payment, but the charges will be made by UPS or fedex whoever gets used. If The post office would accept them I would gladly ship that way however the package is in excess of their size limits.

One to go, this should finsih quickly. I will get with the laser shop about the loops as well.
For the guys doing aod's I highly suggest the 4r70w extension housing swap, call me and I will explain. I have plenty of extension housings here.

I may be interested. On the hoops, I'm not familiar with that part. Is that so, if the shaft comes apart at high speed, it doesn't fly around and kill people?

What's the deadline for this GB?

Oh, and what would be shipping to L.A. California?

David

Dirtyd0g
04-27-2011, 11:43 PM
The loop protects the driveshaft from physically flying out of the car if it were to break. It is required by NHRA for anything faster than 13.50 IIRC.
Shipping within the continental US is included in the price. Anyone outside of the continental US I suggest looking for a company that specializes in shipments to your area. They are out there and they will save you a good bit of money. Shipping to them would be included..
The deadline is when we get our tenth.

If you set up shipping with them I can have the shaft drop shipped to them to forward to you and be much cheaper than UPS or Fed Ex.

I've been eyeing this gb for the few days. Is there an actual benefit to an AL driveshaft? I understand cutting some weight from rotating mass but I don't think it'll do much. I guess I need some convincing.
I am rebuilding the entire car so I might be interested.

hook when drag racing with over 360 or so rwhp and the stock driveshaft can twist into a pretzel. It can also be necessary if you intend to do high speed driving due to improved balancing. if you don't chase your 60ft times or have an issue with your current driveshaft, there may not be a reason to buy it.

But if you think you might in the future, this is a pretty good deal right now. A couple years ago it was over $50 less. Material costs keep going up, which means this will unlikely get cheaper ever.

Is the stock shaft that weak?
If that's the case I think I'll consider it.
Is that the paypal mentioned in the first post?

XR7 Dave
04-29-2011, 09:39 PM
I don't think I would say that the stock shaft is all that weak. I've not seen one break from launching at any power level. What I have seen is the yoke break at the transmission - I broke one - and I know of one other who did. I also know of one that broke due to bad or loose U-joints. Faulty or worn hardware is very often the root cause of many failures throughout the car.

However that being said, the stock crimped 2pc design is not very strong compared to a solid shaft. The strongest shaft is steel, but I think these are very good shafts.

Ok going through my checks and notes, have some confusing ones, one MO from ontario that I do not even have a name on. No clue who this is, what it is or where it is going.
ALL AOD CARS I need to know if you are keeping the small diameter yoke or upgrading to the 4r70w yoke. I have plenty of the extension housings here I can and will sell. As is they are $15, with new seal and bushing they are $30, plus freight. They do not weigh much.
Getting the info together is difficult
Anyone that has not sent me an email please send me an email with driveshaft in the subject line. I need to know where to ship the unit, what it needs to fit and your name. A note of how you paid wouldn't hurt either so I can figure out this stray I have.
If you need want a safety loop please note that as well.
I will be calling several people tomorrow on ones that are confusing me. I have one check for $390 meant to include a loop and freight on the loop, makes no sense to me.
Current count is 14 as far as I know everyone has paid, assembling the order may change that.

Ok going through my checks and notes, have some confusing ones, one MO from ontario that I do not even have a name on. No clue who this is, what it is or where it is going.

Alan
That would be me, I guess. I paid you for the yoke upgrade as well for the driveshaft loop. all shipped to Dave D. Driveshaft is for 90 AOD

For the transmission, are you guys getting 1330 or 1350 yokes? Price of either or each? I would like to try and get a yoke only, during this group buy.

I don't think they sell yokes seperately but I may be able to get you one. I do not know the indutrail numbers if you tell me the transmission I can probably get one. I have many good used ones around here as well and there will be a bunch of guys taking their stock ones out that won't need their old yoke.

Do we have a date for the driveshafts to be shipped?

They gave me confirmation that the driveshaft payment was received and the order was all correct. Other than that we will just see them when they come. Last time was quick so I would expect all of them within the next 2 weeks. I will start boxing up loops for those that ordered them sometime this week and get the extension housings cleaned and the new bushing/seal installed.

Pretty sure I ordered 3 - 2 for the T56 and one for an SC. I received the T56 versions but not the SC version. Hmmmm..

They were seperated on the list dave don't worry, I put the t56 units first on the list because I was trying to make sure they were right first being the confusing ones.

I'm interested in one. Is it still possible to add to this group buy or do we need to start another one?

It has been closed for quite a while, you'll notice the "CLOSED" in the heading of the thread.

The gasket usually does not break but rtv works fine.

Payton I will have it out monday I got them all done up I know of one other person who still needs one as well.

Perfect then. Hopefully it gets to Dave before the week end then I will be a happy camper.
Thanks in advance. Could you please attach an invoice for it as well so my friend doesn't have problems crossing the boarder.
