Aftermarket radio wiring issue

I picked up my 89 SC with a sony after market radio, it had the power wire going directly to the fuse panel where the radio fuse is supposed to go. Not only that but also the red and yellow wires were run together to the wire going to the fuse panel. When you shut the car off the radio lost its memory. So i ran them to the actual power wire and put a fuse in and it worked, still lost memory though. Then i ran the red to red, yellow to yellow (like it is supposed to be!) and the stereo won't turn on now, no power to it at all. Any ideas whats going on? Factory wiring harness looks to be untouched, i used a new wire harness adapter and still have this issue.

The yellow wire needs to see power at all times, (memory). Check to see that you have your 12v there first. The red is switched, and will "trigger" the radio to power up. If you aren't getting these, then you have another missing or blown fuse.

I will have to go check this out tomorrow after work and post what i find, thanks. Ever since I ran the red wire by itself I hasn't turned on.

I checked all the fuses in the car, everything there was good, popped the hood and checked the fuses under there, the 5 amp fuse labeled memory was blown. Haven't had time to go to the auto parts store yet but I'm betting that is it. I will edit this post when i know for sure.

Edit: replaced the 5amp fuse under the hood labeled "memory" and with everything wired correctly it works. Stereo turns on, when you shut the car off and take the key out, it still keeps its memory settings the next time you turn the key on. 1 problem down, few more to go. Can't wait til this thing is completely road ready!
