Key won't turn

1990 auto SC. I recently got this car, and replaced the ignition switch on the right of the column. I've never been able to turn the key all the way back and remove it, but now I can't turn it to the start position.

Removing the key cylinder and trying to turn with a screwdriver doesn't work either.

Is this controlled by some auto trans lockout?
