1.You can have a successful shootout without having the cops show up
2.V8 cars can still win something at an SC event
3.Canadians can still get in the US
4.The Dalke family still puts on one hell of a show

If you have not been to a shootout.......you owe it to Dave and Connie (and many many others)to show up......Everyone who has been will tell you there is not a finer group of people that you can be associated with Thank you Dalke family any many others

I learned that I can make a fast car go slow.
That my M5R2 doesn't like shifting much higher then 6k RPM.

09-25-2011, 11:31 PM
In order to have a chance to win at the car show make sure you are there early because people vote before 10:30am!

Show cars can win trophies at races:)

450Hp Tbird will not get past 13's on 20's no matter how many times you try:(

Don't book your room at Fairfield Inn because they will give it away to someone else and blame you for not having it reserved!

Get a helmet and slicks for racing...Big thanks to Ricardo for letting me use his!

Sally is the best photographer ever!

Need to Invest in a truck and trailer lol

09-26-2011, 06:47 AM

#1 rushing to get things done sucks the fun out of it. When 2 weeks ahead of time you say should I run it as it is or swap the motor, just run it as it is.
#2 kil kare far lane has wicked groove. If you aren't in it you aren't going to be on the throttle either.
#3 fuel pump seals pop off when the trailer gets thrown about on a very narrow road with a wide vehicle trying to use the same lane.
#4 despite the threats and rain going in to the weekend sundays weather could not have been better.
#5 I am hopelessly lost on BE.
#6 running rich will foul the plugs after about 3 passes.
#7 kil kare's tree doesn't give you the run slip on the one you wanted to see the most.
#8 I need a helmet.

09-26-2011, 10:39 AM
I learned driving 12 plus hours then going to work sucks

09-26-2011, 11:23 AM

7. don't offer a yuengling to 1 person as it leads to 22 other people wanting one leaving you with one
8. Ohio weather forcasters are the worst
9. parking lot wrenching has now become parking lot road tuning
10. pig roasts are awesome

09-26-2011, 11:53 AM
1. Do your burnouts before the start line, not on the first 60'
2. Tanks don't need tracks and a turret to be cool.
3. 261,333 mile rear suspension bushings don't like wheel hop (had bad bump steer all the way home!)
4. You can have your car 100% ready for the shootout...but then find it's not ready after all.
5. Having a pit crew and photography crew is NICE!!
6. Conventional brake swap can make burnouts a little more tricky.
7. Belt slip is a plague.
8. 8-rib belts are a pain to procure.
9. 110 octane gas is good stuff.
10. Heat kills.
11. Even the young Dalke's DO WORK!

Sleep is optional.
You can use giant hose clamps to bind a pig.
Anthony Arnold has a big chair.
V6's can still beat V8's on the dyno. :D
Centerforce clutches need break in mileage.
Brian's chili rocks.
It is possible to run a drag race event 9 years in a row and still manage to screw up the details. :o
Cory Binks prefers the broken axle excuse.
Casey's McCarty can run 11's with anywhere from 400-800rwhp.
Double D's lost to a girl. :(

09-26-2011, 04:29 PM

that I don't need to drink to get silly...sleep depervation works too

that LC 1 sucks...so does BE

my car smells great from behind:p

I corrupted corey's girlfriend...thought her to drive a stick on the black car and let her make 2 passes in my red car....she loved it and did awesome at both!!!

camo green is cool

09-26-2011, 05:00 PM
1)Knowing in Feb you will not make it again because you used all of your time for sergury
2)Thinking in July you could swing it, and then realizing your SC car has not run in 5 years
3)Logging on to SCCoA and then realizing it is the weekend of the shootout
4)Logging back on to SCCoA to see if there are any vids/pics of said weekend
5)Damon went this year and I did not
6)Dalke has kids?

09-26-2011, 06:21 PM
Sleep is optional.

Are you trying to say it is possible to sleep within 2 weeks before the shootout? I'll have to try that next year!

09-26-2011, 10:23 PM
1.) you need to bring a rain coat and sunscreen for the shootout.
2.) you can finish assembling a car at 3am and it will run
3.) expensive spark plug wires break just like cheap ones
4.) 400hp with only 16psi of boost= more power is possible
5.) 3:73s and an m5r2 requires fast shifting
6.) Dalke can beat your times by a full second with a 5 speed.
7.) sleep is overrated
8.) the Oatway family can cook an awesome meal

09-26-2011, 10:23 PM
1. You can change your whole driveline two weeks before the shootout.
2. I get more sleep during the shootout than the two weeks leading up to it.
3. DD now has a year to figure out how to beat Sarah.
4. The pig didn't look happy but was yummy.
5. One burned out headlight does't count as a breakage.
6. If you forget to put it in drive, you WILL test your rev limiter.
7. Dave Niebert should have read the owners manual for his truck before Saturday.
8. Some trailers should have the lights on the back instead of hanging out the sides.
9. Ira likes his pepper 'to go'.
10. Sarah is going to smile 'til Xmas.
11. The Waffle House still makes a great breakfast before a long drive.
12. My GPS was sending me to Toldeo when I left the hotel.
13. The border crossing at the bridge in Detroit is still under construction. Five years and counting.
14. I had too much fun.

It is possible to bring 3 kids under the age of 5 and still have a good time.
It is possible to spend your wedding anniversary at the Shootout (it helps having flowers waiting in the room when you arrive  ).
It is possible to repack all of the stuff required for 3 kids back in the vehicles in the rain (meaning you have to get it right on the first try).
A 25 °F temperature increase from last year makes my car run more than .5 seconds slower.
Anthony's #2 stories are funny to this guy
There is never enough Yuengling.
GoPRO cameras are cool.

09-26-2011, 10:46 PM
1 putting a tranny cooler in front of your IC raises your ACT temp:mad:
2 Non working Snow system wont cool those ACT temps
3 Damon really has LEDs under his hood and they are cool
4 Pepper works great as stop leak in a radiator
5 Saturdays dinner was incredable. Thanks all you who made it happen
6 Arnold was was of my favorite guys at the shootout to listen to:D
7 Tech guy thought my helmet might be older than me:rolleyes:
8 Casey blew me away with his dyno run numbers:cool:
9 Coreys paint job was beatiful
10 I need to take more time to meet all the interesting people at the meet

09-26-2011, 10:50 PM
6.) Dalke can beat your times by a full second with a 5 speed.

Tell me about it.

1.) I need to reinstall my intercooler fan.
2.) Roast pig is awesome.
3.) The hotel this year was way better than last year.
4.) Don't forget your lawn chair or cooler.
5.) I know it sounds like a cliche, but the Shootout really does get better every year. This one was a blast.

09-26-2011, 11:20 PM
Bitzer paint > brake fluid.
Don't leave the bathroom door open, unless you're staying with mista Nickelman.
Damon, aka "Pops", does exist.
Jack handle > Damon
Kevin needs a damn tuuuunneee!!
Reusing MLS head gaskets and putting high temp RTV on the large bare metal spots can still hold 800rwhp.
You CAN max out an A1000, on E85, at 700+rwhp.
It's possible for my car to get a car show award?!!
The Shootout disproves the "it takes a fool to try the same thing twice and expect a different outcome" theory. Stick it, Einstein! Much different and more fun each year!!
Where's my steak?!!

09-26-2011, 11:39 PM
1 putting a tranny cooler in front of your IC raises your ACT temp:mad:

Yes it does! Added about 40* to mine in warm weather and the meth couldn't keep it under control.

Things I learned

450HP AR cars are only .1 slower than 800hp MT turbo cars.:D And thats only because the turbo car was a stripped down model.;)

450hp AR cars are 1 second quicker than 540hp MT turbo cars.

Sally thinks my "backin's" sexy

I need to put spark plugs in my tail pipes

Dressing a 40* pig in 50* weather is no fun

The shootout commity did an excellent job getting this together again

You sacrificed some good sleep to help them out at 3am. I think your help got overlooked, but it's appreciated.

That being said.....lets see some videos, son!!!!!

Stuff I learned this year.

*It is possible for Damon to attend a Shootout.
*LEDs under the hood, really are pretty cool.
*Bud Select 55 is only 2.4% alky (thanks for the 18 pk of Bud Light Brian)
*Supersized lawn chairs make me laugh.
*Dayton, Ohio weather forcast is always wrong.
*My v8 can be owned by a v6 on the dyno.
*My V8 can own that same v6 on the track.
*Casey imagines electronic steak dinner bets when he accomplishes a goal.
*Don't expect to sleep when Corey is working on his two step rev limiter.
*My turbo car does burnouts on the track almost as good as on the street.
*Rock hard brake pedal at Kilkare finish line doing 139 mph is scary
*Getting the spare tire out from under my Expedition is way too difficult.
*Phillip (don't you dare exceed 30 minutes) Dalke, runs the dyno competition better than his dad.
*Best of Show can also win a 1st place trophy on the track (congrats Ken).
*I saw my first tire that was only flat on the bottom and still full of air.
*Without Micah, nobody wants to stay up and go on crunk adventures.

Brian did most of the work I was just PIT BBQ Beotch:D

Wet 2x4s don't burn

Lighter fluid puts charcoal out

I'm scared in my old age. More people to worry about than just me.

09-27-2011, 02:51 AM
1. The SC radiator WILL go Old Faithful on you when the cap is removed, even when the cap is only luke warm to touch
2. Maintain proper following distance when following SC's with a trailer (Sorry Jim)

09-27-2011, 08:16 AM
Oh where to begin......

1. Don't let your 17yo son drive your car down the track for his first pass ever. He now thinks a 12.12@118mph is easy.

2. That same kid now thinks I'm going to build him a car.

3. Chris Vinning is NOT sqeemish about doing the nasty work with a raw pig at 3am.......

4. .......but he is nervous about two teenagers, some 2x4s and a big jug of lighter fluid!!!

5. Next time if we want the pig to get to the finish line on time we WON'T name it Turbo!!!

6. Kicking some ~~~ off the line, running well out in front all the way down the track then getting passed at 1200' by a turbo car doing 136mph is kind of deflating!!!

7. 5-speeds still break axels.....when will they ever learn??

8. Dalke actually owns cars than run and can make passes down the track.

9. Phil spent all week getting dads car running then didn't get to drive it himself.....what's up with that?

10. Tech inspection was pretty stringent this year...they must be cracking down.

11. A flat tire can be changed in 10 minutes on the side of the highway....even after taking 9 minutes to figure out how to get to the spare.

12. Big dents in doors actually make a car more aerodynamic.

13. What's up with all these tires being loaded into trunks before going down the track....people must have been thinking they might need a spare in the shutdown area after hearing about Casey's little adventure

09-27-2011, 08:30 AM
Don't leave the bathroom door open, unless you're staying with mista Nickelman.

Casey's the reason they don't paint hotel bathroom walls.............

09-27-2011, 08:33 AM
Things I learned......

.I want a GMC TopKick pickup truck.
.Jeff at Precision is a really cool guy.
.Shootout Committee can pull it off with short notice.
.Its sad to see the full animal you are about to eat.
.Damon has small balls, and should have said no to the AM meeting he had on monday.
.Ryan learned to tune on my car and did a hell of job.
.Too much Methanol kills power not add.
.My spare car makes 5HP less then Iras spare car, but my spare car can make 8 passes down the track and go back home with only a broken cigarette lighter.
.Mike Menke needs to get another SC just to show up to the Shootout
.V6 cars can do some damage on V8s
.Casey is going get hurt if he does not fix or replace the tank. Holy sway.
.Dont dyno or race a car that its not intended for that use, makes you want to make it faster and more powerful after that.
.Need to bring my race car back to its previous status.

09-27-2011, 01:15 PM
15. Brian can smoke a pig and slicks like a Pro.

I stand corrected STEVEN smokes slicks like a PRO!!! :D Picture will follow on facebook!

09-27-2011, 01:38 PM
I stand corrected STEVEN smokes slicks like a PRO!!! :D Picture will follow on facebook!

Oh Noooooo!!!!

09-27-2011, 11:12 PM
Update: I have also learned that I want to race a car with two less cylinders......

After much consideration and inspiration from Casey......I want an SC

So as I posted in the wanted section I am looking for any year SC in any condition. I just want a roller I dont even need a car with a title. Within 100 miles of Dayton i would come get it.

Thanks Casey :)

11. A flat tire can be changed in 10 minutes on the side of the highway....even after taking 9 minutes to figure out how to get to the spare.

I was very happy that you and your son were there to help out (Thank You again)...the extra hands, the floor jack and cordless impact sure made the job go a lot easier than it would have been with a tire iron and my little jack.

09-28-2011, 02:09 PM
seems like we all didn't learn as much this year as we did last year:confused: HUMMMMM

09-28-2011, 10:46 PM
Negitive, we learned A LOT which resulted in less breakage.

Oh yeah, and have to retract my statement and give proper credit back to "daddio Oatway" He's the BURNOUT MASTER this year! :p
