quick manifold gasket question

Does the intake manifold gasket on my 94 4.6l v8 need gasket sealant?

The gaskets are a black plastic type with skinny red rubber lines/circles.
My car has a metal intake manifold, not the plastic manifold with the built in gasket.
I haven't done any gaskets before...any tips/advice?

Many thanks,
Trevor

No gasket sealant required for that engine .. but I would replace the gaskets with new ones if you already have the manifold off.

I can't get the manifold completely off, there is still something holding it on at the back. It comes up a good 10 inches at the front, but only about 2 inches at the back.

I got the old gaskets off already, I might have to just clean it as it is and put the new ones on. I've been told that I don't need gasket sealant, so if I clean it good, I should be able to do this.

Probably the EGR is holding it on if you havent removed it from the throttle body area.

Thanks, it was the egr valve, it was so hard to get the socket on, its at a wierd angle and the hoses were blocking a bolt...but it felt so good to get it off.
Day 3 tomorrow...clean the old gaskets off and re-install.
