We have 7 confirmed with emails sent Jesse will send paypal invoices when we have the 10 minimum.

This post was updated per post 66.

Jessie at Alamo Motorsports.

He will do the $400 per set. You will pay now and the process will again take 6 weeks to get the sets available at the earliest. Tokico is out of parts to build the rears within the US. They are awaiting the parts to arrive in a shipment container. That is why the timeline is out there a bit. If you guys need shocks before then speak up now.

Jesse needs you guys to email him at EMAILUS@CYBERAUTO.COM and put THUNDERBIRD in the subject line include your Shipping Address and a Phone number.

The shipping address needs to be within the lower 48 states. I know a couple of you were in CN and with the timeline it may mess you up a bit but if you want the $400 price that will be what needs to be done.

Just email Jessie and that can start today. He is awaiting your email. He will respond with an invoice sent via paypal to make the payment.

Here is their website. http://www.alamomotorsports.com/contact_info.html

Once the 10 orders are in the invoices will be sent out and the shocks will be created.

Depending on how quickly htis comes together I may weigh in. Have a slightly used set I was intending on putting into the 91 build, but I suppose I'd rather do it only once and with new product.

We have 10 or close to it anyhow. Not everyone is firm. With it being the holiday I will shoot the vendor an email and let you know the feedback.

I will need the payment by June 8th.

$ can be sent via Dwolla ($0.25 charge) or by Paypal add 3% if you do regular payment or just the amount if you want personal payment.

tlundvall at gmail dot com

When you send payment please include your screen name with the payment and your shipping address. This helps me keep everyone straight.

Maybe we should talk to this site or some other vendors and see if they can do a little better that's nearly a 10% increase from the origional buy. I'm in sales and we have ďspecialsĒ like this all the time its as simple as do they want to sell 4000 dollars worth of shocks and struts or let them sit on the shelf? At 400 I'm in 435 I'm out if you tell them because there deal is off they are losing 4000 in sales that should change there mind if not they don't really care if they sell them. Again thanks for your effort on these deals Todd but if they can't do better I'm out on this one

Lycaon1349
05-28-2012, 10:54 PM
im with dave on this one, im in sales too and that should make a good point to them if you put your foot down on it. on the other hand i really need a set of shocks, haha. but in all seriousness try and beat them up a little on the pricing especially if they originally QUOTED you 400 a set as long as you had a minimum of 10 orders, if they go back on their quote thats pretty messed up:mad:

davec73
05-28-2012, 11:23 PM
It costs them a fraction of what they charge for shipping it would cost me 35 bucks to ship these on my ups acct they pay prob around 10. All I'm saying is if you are willing to walk away and waite until they offer free shipping again there tone may change, if not I am willing to waite until it does but not at the cost of breaking the deal up but we should at least see if its possible and check with other vendors and see what they are willing to do I will help if you need me to.

$459 at Shox.com .

It is Mark at Shox.com that I have been dealing with. If you all know of a vendor with a cheaper price let me know and I will be more than happy to speak with them.

What ticked me off was that they have them listed at $459.00 with free shipping. When he stated that he had to now charge us for shipping I did a screen print of the page and sent it to him and asked if he was going to remove the free shipping ad from the page and his response was, Why? I will sell them all day at that price. I didnt respond to that email.

Again, I will be more than happy to speak with anther vendor. I haven't had anytime over the holiday weekend to check into it further.

I have found a different vendor that will do $425 shipped at this time. Working on it guys, but I don't have any skin in this game. Just trying to help the group out. When this thread was started I needed a set, but have since purchased a set as this thread seemed to have died.

I will keep diggiing, just have a full time job that needs to be done to pay the bills. ;)

Rather fortuitous timing on this thread. Initially I was thinking about going in on this group buy, but then was leaning towards getting new tokicos and lowering springs as a package through SHOX. Now that it appears this vendor is not going to stand by a deal on a group buy, I'm not going to take any of my business their way. I appreciate the efforts many of you make in lining up these group buy deals, and definitely think that as a group we should avoid companies that don't stick to agreements.

Once the west coast gets rolling over there I have 3 more vendors to call and get pricing. It appears all shocks will be shipped to me and reshipped at this point. Trying to work the details out on that and pricing as well.

Moving forward. Should have the question answered about the $400 being able to still work or not today.

Don't mean to drag this out, but I like to keep everyone current on the situation.

Tokico product line. During my vacation from work, my partner Jesse and
you had set up a wonderful group buy, which I have just now emailed order
confirmations and paypal invoices for ten of your following members:

1-Chris V.
2-Zach
3-Chris R.(still working with him to order additional parts! :-))
4-Glenn
5-David
6-Kain
7-Brando
9-Bryce
10-Kurt

As you already know, this order will take about 4 weeks lead time to
construct, and I thought you should know that my Tokico Representative
just yesterday informed me that ALL Tokico retail pricing will go up 10%
on July 7th, 2012.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to
contact me directly either by email to this address, or call me directly
at 800-880-0960 x602.

Again, your business is highly appreciated, and I look forward to next time!

Have a great day!
Best regards,

Chris let me know what the total price was including the springs please.

My total price was for front/rear shocks = $380 plus $20 for shipping coming to a grand total of $400. That is all I have requested to purchase and all that was on my invoice through paypal. I'm not sure what is meant by the "additional parts." I don't intend to purchase anything other than the four shocks.

Not sure what the travel distance and weight distribution of the Mark is. The shock iteself will be set to soft and remain there without the ARC system hooked up.

The Tokico Illumina instead of these would probably work better, but just a guess at this point.

I think you can actually turn the valve in the shock (that the ARC actuator would turn if it were there) to set it to firm, unless it is spring loaded.

what do you mean "tokico Illumina instead" i though that was what you were all buying here...?

if there is another tokico illumina i can get for non ARC t-bird please point me to it,i can seem to find anything in this line of shocks for the mn12 chassis.

I do know the standard mn12 front shock works fine on Mark 8, i just want the adjustability of these tokicos. :)

thanks

So while we're waiting for our lovely group buy to get put together, anyone in for explaining how the ARC system works on our vehicles? ive never really researched it, im just curious if anyone knows specs/parameters of the system becoming active, such as X amount of G-force body roll, X amount of braking force, X percentage of throttle per vacuum load on the engine, ect... anyone?

Plat0ribs
06-15-2012, 12:54 PM
Don't think the specifics are listed in the manual, they do list what imputs will cause it to go "firm" but not how much input. Except they will go firm above 90 MPH, this I have confirmed... on occasion... in Mexico!

BirdofPrey97
06-15-2012, 12:58 PM
The information is given by the TPS sensor I believe to show the amount of throttle being given as well as for braking the speed sensor is used. If you have bad wiring for a speed sensor the Firm Ride will not work correctly.

What percentage and the specifices I do not remember. That was way back in 1990 when that was discussed.

when i had my 1988 Turbo coupe with arc, i remember reading it was based on speed,WOT , brake pressure and steering angle. although i could never trigger the firm ride with steering angle/speed alone, maybe my steering sensor didnt work?

but going WOT, or exceeding some high speed or braking fairly hard all would toss the susp in to firm mode.

thats all i know.....

I heard that the older Tokico Illumina II were not as good as what came with the OEM, Yet some place else I heard that these were an improvement over OEM. Does anyone have any feedback on this ?( OEM vs Old aftermarket vs new aftermarket shock, which we are talking about here.

I believe they had enough for around 4 sets to be manufactured quickly, but the other needed parts where on a cargo ship, but that was a couple weeks ago. Dont want to get the hopes up, but I put 6 weeks hoping it wouldnt take more than 4. People tend to like it that way as opposed to 4 and it ends up 6. ;)

Tokico is dependant on that shipment arriving on time though from Japan.

Glad this vendor is working out!

On a side note if you guys need injectors let me know. Siemens has contacted me and wants me to be a vendor for them, but right now I don't know that I can move enough to make setting up a business worth it.

Wide bands are very hard to get a better deal on then what is out there. Innovate doesn't allow mark up or they will pull you as a vendor. That being said you see them from $157 to $220.

Trying to get guys to move from the old 3795 to the 3844 as it is a digital signal and more accurate, but there is some pushback on that from people just being uncertain. It requires the user to have BE 2010 at least, which shouldnt be a big deal by now, but people are just use to the old UEGO system. It's a good system, but it improvements have occurred.

Just trying to sell the QH1 and Wideband together to try and help people get the products they need from one location. File would still need to be purchased from David and BE would still come from Casey.

I can get them to you for $165 shipped. There should be better prices out there than that. The main cost is getting it shipped to me and then me reshipping them.

That's why I thought I would try and sell them together for any benefit.

Todd and David:

Good morning to you both. I have requested an official update from Tokico.
I am still waiting for a reply. Though the original order was submitted on
6/19/12, the last order was submitted on 6/25. I'm guessing that the end
of July would be a fair estimate, since they originally stated it would be
about 4 weeks. I am sure that they shipped out what they had in stock as a
starter, and since the original order, a few more members got on board,
and so Tokico should, if anything, be thrilled.

Your patience is appreciated, and I most definitely will update you as

"Gentlemen:

I just got heard straight from my Tokico representative, and I have an
update for you. I know that there may be a few of you out there that may
have already received your parts, or a few out there, that I have left out
of this email, so please excuse me and pass on the information on through
the club.

Apparently a cargo shipment via ocean arrived with only half the parts
needed to complete the construction for the group buy.

The EE3690 Rear Shocks should be completed in about 2 weeks fortunately.

However, as for the Front Shocks, EU3689, they never made it on this
shipment, and Tokico states it will be another 4-6 weeks for them to
arrive and to be assembled.

I apologize for your inconvenience, and this unforeseen delay, and promise
to update you as soon as I hear anything else.

Your patience and business are both appreciated.

You're right, they should notify me when there is a change or a delay, but sadly they do not.

Guys keep in mind the manufacture needed the money before starting manufacturing. Therefore, the vendor "Nahla" does not have the money you gave her, but the manufacture Tokico does. You can ask Nahla for it back based off the information given at the time of purchase of up to 6 weeks, but odds are it won't happen and you will have to file with BBB and go after Tokico.

All,

We went with this vendor after another backed out of an agreed on price. We also purchased the shocks knowing that the parts were not on hand and had to be ordered. The parts didn't arrive on time, but I don't see this as the vendor's fault. A timely update on the delivery date/delay to keep us in the loop would be nice, but it looks like we just rec'd that. I'm going to wait it out - not thrilled about it, but it's not the end of the world.

If we wanted to own cars that had an abundance of parts and aftermarket doo-dads, we probably would own something other than an SC.

Just my nickel's worth

I agree that this delay is disappointing, but I'm not in a hurry for these. I do wish the communications was better though. Heck, I waited for more than a year for the Canton overflow tank and when it was said and done, I doubt they will ever be made again.

XR7 Dave
10-09-2012, 08:23 AM
I know it doesn't help anyone waiting here, but this is one of the reasons to go through a trusted vendor via the normal parts chain rather than try to "prime the system" with a group buy. Manufacturers prefer to work with their normal vendors and schedule production based on their annual buying patterns. A mass buy like this can have the opposite of the intended effects - it can reduce supply and actually cause a rise in prices due to supply and demand.

Shortly after this buy went into effect and the delays were announced, I ended up needing a set of these shocks and couldn't wait. I bought a set (they were in stock) at Shox.com for $480 shipped. I paid a little more, but I supported a vendor that will be there for me next year and the year after, and whom I can go to if I have a warranty issue in the future. For me the $80 was worth it.

I know it doesn't help anyone waiting here, but this is one of the reasons to go through a trusted vendor via the normal parts chain rather than try to "prime the system" with a group buy. I just received my Tokico shocks. I was one of those that waited until 6-20-12 to even order, so I guess that would make me one of the last to get in on the buy. Everyone should have theirs by now. Sure hope I can find the time to get them in this year, my left front just started leaking.

Here are some steps from Dave on how to replace the coil overs. Thought this would be a good place to share. Thanks, Dave.

"You absolutely do not need a spring compressor.

1) Jack the car up, remove front wheels and separate sway bar end link from spindle. Do both sides.

2) Re install wheel with a couple nuts and lower car.

3) Undo 18MM nut on top of both shocks and raise car back up.

4) Secure the vehicle with jack stands and use your jack under the lower control arm to take enough tension off the front suspension to remove the upper control arm to spindle bolt and separate upper control arm from spindle.

5) Lower jack to relax spring. Undo lower shock mount bolt and remove assembly. Do both sides, reverse proceedure to re-install.

At no time in this process is a loaded spring handled in any way. The rear is actually more difficult. Removing the stock springs is a ~~~~ and will be made easier by removing the bump stop inside the spring first. Be sure to remove the sway bar end links and disconnect the upper control arm before attempting removal of the spring.

The whole job can be done in about 4 hours without breaking a sweat. Add 1.5 hrs for the Koni's."

Put the firm ride on and taking the car around a long sweeping curve. When you get into the middle of the flip the switch to off and see if you can tell a difference.

60mph or so you should be able to tell the difference when the switch is flipped to off. Probably wont feel them come on or go off as they have settings that help keep that from happening. But forcing it by using the switch will help identify it.

Not sure what the expactation is here. The car will act different when the firm light comes on, but it is not only because of the shocks, but the throttle position and the steering ratio changes as well.

It simply holds the piston in a different position when the firm light is on/actuator is locked in.

If the expecation is that the car will stiffen and be more aggressive feeling most of that will be from the steering wheel.

Unhook the actuators and go drive it around. Remember what and where the changes in driving were done. Hook the actuators back up and go do the exact same thing.

One thing I am wondering is if the actuators are installed all the way down and locked in correctly?

No haven't figured it out. But now I am kinda guessing the actuator kinda just ratchets in one direction or the other depending on firm or soft and it doesn't matter where the shock valves are upon installation.

I haven't installed my shocks yet.

Lycaon, I guess I would contact the selling dealer or tokico directly and see where to go.

First, allow me to say hi to all in the post and forum. Still new here and getting alot of great information from all of the post.

I have come across a carrier for the Tokico (TOEU3689) front shocks. http://www.importrp.com. I called
the company to verify (yes) they have them in stock, but only a Qty. of 10, well now 8 due to me just buying a set. I have checked on the rear shocks, and as of right now they are out of stock but stated they are hoping to have them by December/January.

Just thought I would pass along my findings to all of the Thunderbird Crew, looking for these... GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember there isnt that many.

Because the shocks in the Illumina II line have five settings...except for the ones for our cars (which have only two settings). The description isn't accurate for the EU3689's on most websites.

What's the cost from http://www.importrp.com?

Looks like they're based in Washington, so I don't expect they'll be answering phones for a while.

I'm surprised to see everyone interested in these. Maybe I just got a bum set. I "inherited" a relatively new set of fronts, and bought a set of rears. Mated to an inherited set of H&Rs, and I hate the ride. Have to leave it in firm all the time. Also hate the drop.

What is everyone using for springs with the Illumina IIs?

I spoke with Duffy some time back and he said the Illuminas had all kinds of quality control problems when he had the SC engineer he knows look into this. Maybe I have one of those sets. Hoping it's been resolved.

Illumina IIs are meant to work with stock springs, as far as I know. They are drop-in replacements for the factory Illumina Is. I like the ones on my car. Ride is much like stock.

You can also use stock replacement Monroe springs, though the rates are not going to match stock exactly in most cases, since there were something like 10 different spring calibrations that you might get, depending on what options your own car had.

We discussed the Tokico situation in another thread recently. Tokico has changed distributors for the USA. But the distributor was more than a warehouse. They actually assembled the shocks here. (Which may help explain quality inconsistency.) The new distributor is getting the tooling set up. It will take a little while for everything to start up again. Hopefully within a few months, according to a guy I talked to at Shox.com who talked to a guy at Tokico.

The interest is due to the utter lack of available shock options. There are currently zero drop-in performance front shock options being manufactured for our platform. In my case, I want something stiffer than my current KYB GR2's up front. The ability to soften the front shocks at the track is a welcome bonus.

What is everyone using for springs with the Illumina IIs?
I'll be running them with my current springs: 1" drop Vogtlands from the original GP in the early 2000's.

Yup, understood these are a drop-in for our cars. I guess I expected many people just didn't care about that factor - they were willing to get rid of the ARC to get the suspension they really wanted. Since I was disappointed with mine, I figured I wasn't the only one.

Anyway, guess I'll be waiting for the new "distributor/builder" to get setup and buy a complete set.

I'm also planning to get a custom pair of springs as I no longer have my originals (Damnit). Again, spoke with Duffy some time back and he told me about a company he worked with and got them ALL of the original specs/variations for the factory springs. They'll do a complete set based on the original setup your car had, and will custom cut them as well. This is probably the route I'll go as I want a very minimal drop and the factory ride.

XxSlowpokexX
10-28-2013, 05:24 PM
If they are retooling to make these perhaps they can actually control quality and maybe just maybe give the firm setting a real performance setting. I would love a nice soft feel and then a true handeling feel when the need arises.

Keeping or ditching ARC isn't the issue. I ditched ARC long ago, and I'll be running these shocks without ARC. It's that they'll physically bolt into place on our platform. There currently isn't any performance bolt-in option out there. At the moment, we're stuck with Monroe, KYB, and the like.

Yes these are the drop in replacements for the OEM with ARC, which mine is. There is s small/thin metal inside the center of the threaded shaft/rod. But not anyway for flat head screwdriver to do anything, only way I can see turning it would be to use needle nose pliers, there is no adjusment screw or cap.

From what I understood, ( I thought) is that these had an adjustment that u can set 1-5 and are for use with the ARC system .I must be stupid or something, did I misunderstand something. I believe that there are Illuminas for other models (such as the Miata) that DO have 5 manual adjustment positions. The Illuminas for the Thunderbird match the OEM shocks (which were made by Tokico) and therefore only have two adjustments, which are done electrically.

http://thmotorsports.com/i-526570.aspx?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=5265701991MAZDAMIATA&utm_campaign=GoogleShoppingSeanVehSpec&adtype=pla&kw=&gclid=CKiUw-K_wboCFUGd4AodqDUAiQ

If you wanted to remove the electric adjusters, you could adjust them manually. But I don't see any reason to do that.

I forgot to reply with the final solution. I placed a notch across the top of the shock stems to designate the "firm" setting. Parallel to the notch = firm setting. Perpendicular to the notch = soft setting. I've found that a AC valve tool (similar to a Schrader valve tool) works perfectly for changing shock settings.

That would be good. In the past, many club members have bought them from Shox.com. I asked a man at Shox.com about these specific shocks, and he said they want to stock them, but they, like everyone else in the USA, can't get them yet. Or any other Tokicos for any other model, for that matter.

I don't need shocks right now ... but I know I will eventually!
