View Full Version : New owner from VA

Hello all. This will be my first post here. I am the new owner of a 1989 SC 5speed. I found it on Craigslist and the asking price was $1500 but I got it for $1000. It is need of a paint job and neess some work on the interior but other wise is in good condition. The odometer shows over 200K but it has had a new engine put in around 22K miles ago and came with all the paperwork and receipts to show it. It also came with a extra suprcharger and a trunk full of extra parts that I havent even had a chance to go through. I know the guy said there were alternatord and pullies and stuff lik that in there.

I look forward to my stay here and hope to learn alot about these cars as I go. I have always had 5.0 Mustangs ( currently daily drive a 85 T-top GT) and turbo Probe GTs but, have never owned a Thunderbird. My first car was supposed to be a 88 5.0 Thunderbirs but Dad traded it a few weeks before I started driving. I think I picked a good car for my first Thunderbird...... That supercharger whine gets addicting :)

A few of us will be going to Fun Ford Weekend at VMP (Virginia Motorsports Park) 15-17 June. It's located in Dinwiddie near Petersburg.

In august we have summerblast in martinsburg WV and Hagerstown MD. Right up 81 for you.

Both sound like they would be alot of fun. The one in August seems like it would be more of a possibilty since its closer and i would be more likely to be able to get off work. Where i work you have to request off several months in advance to be approved :(

Any idea of the exact dates in august and i may go ahead and ask for some time off.

There are a few virginians on here, I'm in Radford myself. I remember seeing a grey coupe riding around here (mc donalds in fairlawn to be exact)last summer that looked well maintained and possiblly modified.

Radford isnt too far away, just about 2 hrs up the road. The last Probe GT that I bought came from Radford.

I finally have another day off coming uo Thursday so I am going to check the car out good and make sure everything is ok on it before I go get it tagged and start driving it some.

Are there any common problem areas with these or specific things I should check on it?

I had a 97 gt black I sold a few years ago. One point I was going to fab a turbo kit for it but it had so many problembs that kept appering so I ended up selling it.

I've seen a few up that way also. I work in Salem and visit Roanoke frequentlly. I met a guy named Mike a while back that lives in roanoke, he works at some dealership as a mechanic iirc. He had a sharp looking sc.
