hey guys im getting a rattling sound on my 93 sc. it sounds like a loose heat sheild on a catalytic converter. thing is i took off the one on the drivers side last year because it was loose and the passenger side seems to be on tight any ideas:confused:

Did you take off the wields that are welded to the cats? After awhile, one of two of the welds will break and let the shield vibrate. The bolt-on shield seems to go first, of course.

If the shields are already gone, maybe the catalyst (guts) are broken inside and making the rattle noise.

Is it an auto? If so it could be converter chatter.

Maybe the heat shield for the gas tank has worked loose, had to tighten that one up before.

The supercharger can start making a sound if the bearings go out.

My friend had an '89 SC and he also had a rattling sound. He said he watched the heat shield for the cat fly up and almost hit a van behind him. That fixed the rattle. :p

noise seems to be coming from the front of the car underneath. just put on a new latemodel sc cant be that.

The AODE and 4R70W transmissions have a clutch in the torque converter and when they fail the converter will make a chattering noise. I see yours is a 1993 so I believe you have an AOD. If you do have an AOD it is not torque converter chatter. You would want to look elsewhere.
