View Full Version : Rear End Clunking

I have an 89 5spd with 168k on it. I just replaced the passenger side half-shaft, because it had some play and made a clunking noise (or so I thought!) Well, replaced it, went pretty well, and noticed my lower rear control arm's front bushing was cracked pretty severely all the way around. That is now in line to fix next, but the car makes a clunking noise still with the new half-shaft. Not as bad, so that was definitely a part of it, but it makes the clunking noise between gears if you're not very gentle (i.e. pretty rough) with the clutch, and it also makes the noise if you're in a low gear for your speed, revs above 2000, and you let off the gas and then get back on it without engaging the clutch, it makes the same noise, and it appears to be coming from the rear passenger side.

Sound like its a good place to start? Do you think that will take care of it?
