Tach stuck at 5000

My tachometer is stuck at 5000. For some reason I thought that replacing the cam position sensor was the first step in fixing it. Wrong. The ignition switch assy. is new as well. When I replaced it the tach sprung to life for about 3 seconds then died again. Any ideas?

I had a similar problem with a 94 SC and it was actually a bad Tach...surprised me honestly.
